Just replaced the blades. Seem to turn freely. Did hit something lately but it didn't happen right after. Belt seems ok. Only happens when blades are engaged. Has gotten progressively worse. Motor starts fine and runs fine. Not sure if it's related but seems to lack power at times.
Number one are you sure you replaced the new blades with the right ones. Another thing if you say you have hit something you may have bent one or both shafts.the blades are fastened to. You can check this out by spinning the blades by hand . Please pull the starting key before you put your hand underneath to check it out.

maybe the safty switch under seat might be starting to go out if that switch doesn't work the blades wont come on at all for safety

With blades on and engine off reach under and wiggle each blade up and down. If you have excess play you will need bearings.

yes it is a bad belt unless it is a hydro-stat(no clutch) you need to look under the mower and see if the belt is on correctly

The PTO switch contacts to operate the clutch that starts the blades is defective. I have replaced mine and the new one just failed again. Sears must know this is a defect problem but so far they are quiet about the problem
