ok one thing first the thares a few things to check first check to see if thare is a fuse bus buy the batter check all 50amp fuses that is what it sounds to me i dont remimber if that year was fused with the big maxie fuse are if it was a linkeable fuse if it is a linkelbule fuse thin it will be a little harder to find lightly pull on the wires to the b+ on the alt and fallow them a fuseabule link will sterach. most of the ecm are pcm that are replased are not bad so check the fuses first have a 95 that blow both 50 amp fuses and did the same and it happind win i jumped it
If it looks brittle I would replace it, with plastic parts if in doubt replace it. if it is a cheap part you could save a lot of time and trouble by replacing it now wile it is apart.
follow the radiator hose to where it hooks into the top of your engine. Remove the hose and then remove then nipple it was clamped to. Under that nipple will be your thermostat. You will loose antifreeze, approximately 1/2 gallon is wht I lost when I did mine. Make sure you get the right temperature thermostat so it opens and closes when it is supposed to. the temperature will be stamped in the old thermostat.
It can only be either the ignition swith or a broken wire between ig switch and starter solenoid, if you take off the plastic bezel around switch I think the starter sol wire is white with red trace,.with a lengh of wire from the pos on battery, touch to starter wire at switch, if it then turns engine over, the fault is switch. If not check other end of starter wire where it connects to starter solenoid on starter
