Generally all portable tool batteries slide into position until a click is heard alerting us that it is locked in position & just wont come falling out in use, look @ the manually closely & follow the steps ( you'll get it! ALSO note there will also be a way to release the battery once you have charge it......Good luck :)

Is the string spool seated on the rachet correctly? If so and all is well, it is worth noting that these trimmers auto feed fuunction is problematic at best, requiring manually unwinding some line every few minutes as the unit gets older.

The manual is available on line if you do not have your hard copy OR you could purchase a spool already loaded and ready to go.

I have a black and decker 20 volt edger lithium batter charged. It is fully charged but it won't start. I squeeze the black button on the handle and nothing happens

Most cordless string trimmers/edgers have a safety lock. For the Black & Decker LST220, you need to push this safety lock button on the top of the edger down and push it forward or pull it back. Keep this button in this configuration and then pull the trigger. Once the edger is running, you can release the safety lock button.

If you have the safety switch in the correct position, check if the battery is fully seated. I know that I've put the battery into a similar trimmer without it being fully engaged. Check if the edger works with a different battery if possible. Batteries will fail over time. If it still doesn't work, the electric motor may have failed.

The manual for the LST220 is available on the product page: https://www.toolservicenet.com/dewalt/en//Black-%26-Decker/OUTDOOR/HEDGETRIMMERS%2C-STRING-TRIMMERS%2C-SHEARS/CORDLESS-STRNG-TRIMMERS//p/LST220.
The current link is https://www.toolservicenet.com/i/BLACK_DECKER/GLOBALBOM/QU/LST220/1/Instruction_Manual/EN/90574016_LST120.pdf .

I hope this helps. To find other manuals for Black & Decker models, try searching for your model at https://www.toolservicenet.com/dewalt/en/ .

Black decker troubleshooting

ensure the spool is not ended if so replace with new spool of string. also check the retaining screw in the middle is not too tight. undo it one click at a time to alow the spool to unwind when the motor runs

always disconnect your strimmer from the power when doing this also wear protective footware and long trousers, when using such tools.

Hi there. You are my last hope. I am ready to throw it away and give up! My Black and Decker cordless string trimmer wont recharge. The red light comes on, so I believe it is not a contact issue. ...

You didn't say how old your trimmer is, but it sounds like it may just need a new battery. Just like a car battery, they will only recharge for so long and then die and need to be replaced.

You can recharge the battery at any time. I usuly use mine then when done using it I put it back on the charger so I know it will be charged the next time I need it.

CST2000 can't get the battery off when pushing the two release buttons.

Black & Decker didn't make it easy to remove the battery pack. You have to push both buttons in at the same time, while pushing the battery pack forward. It takes a little while to get good at it -- you have to hold onto the trimmer with the same hand that's pushing the buttons in, while pushing the head forward with the other hand.

If you're only taking the head off to charge the battery, you can charge it while it's still attached. The hole for the adapter is on the back of the head, so you can plug it in while it's attached to the trimmer.

Hope that helps!
