SOURCE: Replacing traction drive belt for John Deere L118
Actually this is a fairly easy looking one to replace. If you go to John Deere parts and do a search for your tractor, in the parts listing it gives a pretty clear picture of the routing and configuration of the belt as it should go on, you might want to print it out to have nearby while you are working on it. You will need to remove the mowing deck to get at it and possibly some large blocks to elevate the tractor to give yourself room to work.
Look closely at the old belt if it is still on the tractor to get an idea what is involved BEFORE you start, comparing it with the picture. You will need to loosen and move or remove the belt guards and do be careful of the nylon fan on top of your transaxle

Adjust the front tire pressures to 14 psi. Set the rear tires to 10 psi. Make sure that the mower is on level ground,concrete driveway or garage floor. Set you deck height knob to 2.5 inches. Move the blades to where the blade tips are pointing to the side of the mower deck. Level the deck side to side by adjusting the lift link nuts,15mm or 17mm wrench. Get the side to side as level and possible and close to a number or mark on the guage. Move the blade tips to the front of the mower deck. Check the front to back and have a 1/8" to 1/4" lower on the front of the blades than the back. 18mm and 19mm wrenches for the front adjusting bracket.
