check the circuit breaker in the main fuse box in case a breaker has tripped.
check the fuse in the power plug, if it is no good replace it.

Black and decker all temp steam iron stopped working while ironing and now it won't turn on.

please see the cause and fix it:
a) tank or ports clogged. Dissasembly and inspect replace tank and seal if badly clogged. Emptying iron after each use allow heats to evaporate remaining water and helps prevent clooging. Inspect valve and linkage: clean or replace as necessary

Was using iron with no problems when heard a pop and now wont work. Not the outlet. Is there a fuse that could blow, and is this something that is easily fixed? or is it better just to purchase a new...

Most likely it was the thermal overload, its a type of fuse, but could be a capacitor on the circuit board. The history of this iron's failures would lead me to tell you to get another on and not a Black and Decker. repair costs would be $25.00 and up just to get someone to look at it and parts for these are not widely available so any parts you get would cost extra for shipping. Wouldn't hurt to open it up and see if it is something simple but I would not pay to have it repaired!
You can only tell for sure by taking the unit apart and testing the circuit for continuity. You will have to check each component seperately to find the damaged part.or you can test the whole circuit at the plugs end,and use a jumper across each part until you have continuity through the unit.Make sure the thermostat is turned all the way up.the part that you are bypassing when you get continuity is the bad part.
A bad reading is almost assured with what your telling me .

The cord gets hot

You have a short somewhere in the cord. As this is a risk for fire, the Iron should either be taken for repair or replaced.
