Just had the same thing happen, and I thought it was the motherboard. Then a tech friend removed the battery and held the power button down. Then he replaced the battery, and it booted up fine! Good luck...

Hi! Please check the motherboard for blown or corroded capacitors. If the capacitors are faulty it can result to a sudden reset or no boot at all. YOu can determine a blown capacitor if it has a whitish powder on the top or theres a leak on the top. Once replaced you'll be good. Hope this helps and have a good one!

My computer all lights start flashing. i can't boot

Andy,
Check for bad battery as this is the likely culprit. All laptops require a functioning battery to power up. Years ago manuf. re-designed this because people were using laptops without batteries and would get micro-surges that trashed their mainboard so most if not all laptops require a good battery in place to power up.

Let me know if that does not work for you and we'll look at some other areas

Gateway computer power light flashes before booting up.

Hmm. I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with pressing the button. It sounds more like a failing power supply or lack of current for startup. Did you make sure you plugged the power into the video card power connector (if it has one)? I know it worked ok at first but a heavier load can cause older or under-rated power supplies to fail soon after. Just a thought.

G4 power light flashes

Thank for contacting Fixya, I will be glad to assist you.

Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
• First, hold in your power button for approximately 10 seconds to do a hard shutdown.

• Once your Mac is shutdown, you will need to perform what is called a PRAM reset (Parameter RAM)

• Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously .

• Turn on the computer.
• Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.

• Now, hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the third time.

• Release the keys and allow the Mac to start up.

If neither of these processes do not work, have your RAM memory checked, as this could be a factor in your G4 not booting up.

One other factor to consider, especially given consideration of the flashing light and no boot up, depending on the type of G4 mac you have, would be the power supply, which is what gives your G4 the power to boot up and function.

Hope this helps.

I have a fujitsu e8410 which will not start up properly, when i push the start button it shows power but then the fan comes on and the cap num and shift lock leds flash and nothing else. can you help?

When you plug in the power cord is there any lightswhatsoever on the laptop, where the plug goes in or on the AC Adapter of thepower cord?

When you press the power button do you hear fans running, hard drive spinning, lights on the computer, hear any beeps or lights constantly blinking, hear theDvD/CD drive click and the light on the drawer of the DvD/CD turn on for asecond or two? If so the laptop is trying to boot or may have booted, butthe screen is not showing for some reason.

Beep tones and blinking lights tells the technicians what is going on with thelaptop and why it is not booting. Most times it's a motherboard issuewhen you hear beeps or blinking lights continuous.

Maybe your power cord is bad if you don't get anything to happen whatsoeverwhen you press the power button. And if that's true maybe you wasoperating off the battery the last time you had it on and since the power cordis bad, it was not charging the battery so the battery is drained and the powercord is bad.

Maybe you have a Static Charge Buildup. Remove the Power Cord, Remove theBattery, then Press and Hold the power button for 30seconds. After 30 seconds plug the power cord back in (leave the batteryout) and hit the power button to see if it boots. If it does, you can putthe battery back in and let it charge.

My Dell Dimension begins to boot then sits there as if asleep

It sounds like it's probably the power supply. Computers require more power to boot up than they do to keep running, so if it's fine once it gets going, the power supply may just be dying. If you have a multimeter and know what you're doing, you can test the power supply connectors to see if any of them (especially the ones leading to the motherboard) are not giving the proper voltages.

How old is the computer?

No Opening - The computer center control cover (A) continals to flash for 10 Seconds only

Make sure your power cord is pluged in and the indicator light in front is yellow (saying that it is "charging") - these cords are known to go bad quite often.

Your computer is saying there is not enough battery, or power to keep it from booting all the way up.
