Connecting Ipod touch 8(GB) to Wi-fi BEWARE SPAM NUMBER +1-800-532-4187 BELOW

I have an ipod touch and a DG834G router, my ISP is AOL and I can't connect the ipod to AOL via the wireless connection. Everytime I enter the network settings manually the device says ( Unable to connect to network). Can somebody possibly offer a solution please!!!!!!!?????? I've eneetered the original network settings and followed solutions on the Apple website, ive even phoned Apple customer support and (after1.5hrs) they still couldn't figure out what the problem is. I've entered the mac address in the routers allowed list, i've entered every IP address, subnet mask, router address and DNS server addresses, and no luck.

Yep I have the same problem with the same router - I've had my touch working without issue on an identically setup USR router. The touch will give an 'unable to join the network error' even when the SSID is broadcast and all security is fully disabled (wep & mac filtering off).

Personally I think that the issue lies within the touch OS network driver as I have several other devices (pc, laptop, wii, ds, xbox ...) connecting just fine. A patch from either netgear or apple would be the ideal solution but I suspect not soon forthcoming - I would be interested to know if anyone knows of any work-arounds.

Thanks for the help folk, but the problem has know been resolved. The player itself had a malfunction and I sent it back to Apple who have since replaced it (excellent service). It works perfectly know, and I am able to connect to my router, for the record it works better on WPA-PSK2, with this router.

Many thanks to all those who responded

After fighting with this for the last couple of hours I have my ipod touch working with the netgear DG834G(v3) router. The fix is a bit odd and I am not entirely sure why it works but I thought I would share and hopefully it might help you out …

First I think that the WEP encryption simply does not work between these two devices and causes some very strange behaviour – the WEP 'authentication type' setting I had on the 'wireless settings' page was set to 'shared key' – I flicked this to 'automatic' & strength to ‘128 bit’ - hit apply and finally I found I was able to connect without an error message (after inputting the correct WEP key). Unfortunately the DHCP did not work correctly after this and I kept receiving IP addresses in the range of 169.254.x.x (an internal default) rather than my networks expected 192.168.0.x range. The Ipod touch couldn’t find any DNS servers or connect to the internet.

To get round this I set the router ‘security options’ to use WPA instead (WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)) instead of WEP. Set the new WPA password at the bottom of the wireless settings page - again hit apply - and configured the ipod to use the new password and WPA PSK instead of WEP. This worked fine – although it does mean I have to change the settings on all my other wireless devices around the house!

The weird thing is that although the router isn’t using WEP encryption changing the 'authentication type' setting back to ‘shared key’ in the WEP menu breaks the WPA connection again – very odd? I blame netgear and their obviously crazy wep code :)

Thank you so much, this has been hours of frustration and this worked in a flash.

I have a linksys (now cisco) model WRT54G wireless router, and finally got it working with the ipod touch. Upgraded the firmware in the router by going to www.linksys.com and downloading it and installed it via the router's web based GUI. Wireless mode set to Mixed, Channel 6, set the network name, selected wpa personal security mode, TKIP wpa algorithm, and set the wpa shared key. Then it connected to it, but DNS didn't work, and it turned out my ISP had changed DNS server IPs and I had the old one specified in the list. (all other wireless devices worked OK with it, but not the ipod). When I removed the wrong DNS server IP address from the top of the list of 3 DNS server addresses, it worked.

I entered my WEP key as the password into the iTouch to get connected to the CISCO Linksys WRT110 router. The router was working for my laptop and desktop, but not for the iTouch until we entered the WEP key and it worked fine! My son is now online and accessing youtube, iTunes, etc. It took a while to figure that out!

The WEP key was also the problem when trying to connect our PS3 to the wireless router, so I had it on hand.

Reset network settings by tapping Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings.

I also have a Netgear DG834G router and had trouble connecting my ipod touch. Even with WEP or WPA disabled I received the ipod message 'unable to join the networ (SSID name)'
My solution was rather simple: I had forgotten that I had set up the MAC addresses of my other wireless devices as trusted wireless stations under 'wireless settings>wireless station access points' as an extra security measure. Obviously I had to add the ipod's MAC address to this list or turn off the access control via MAC address. It may sound a pretty obvious solution now that the wi-fi is working on my ipod but maybe there are some others out there who have also forgotten about the MAC address access control settings they have turned on. By the way the ipod MAC address is under Settings > General > About - then scroll down to Wi-Fi Address

I bought an ipod touch this morning and have had all sorts of problems getting on-line using my wireless network through a Netgear DG834.

The error that appears is the touch can’t find server – there are dozens of forum entries on-line with the solution – long story short : go into the control program of your DG834 (enter 192.168.0.1 into the browser bar) and make a note of your WEP encryption code key (usually 10 letters) – this is the numerical representation of your networks password, and it is based on a shorter digit/letter password.

When the touch asks for a password, don’t input the password, input the encryption code !!!

If you’re using encryption higher than 64 bit then again you may need to downgrade as the touch isn’t great at accepting WEP protocols.

Do the above and you’ll be on-line in seconds (assuming like me and most people you’ve got WEP encryption + good news is you shouldn’t need to re-code other PC’s or consoles (Xbox360 etc) on your network.

Good luck

SOURCE: Connecting Ipod touch 8(GB) to Wi-fi

netgear support software could be bad. The ipod might not be able to read signal. umm try restoring the ipod. then plug it to your computer let it recognize it and then before you add ANYTHING to it, go straight to the setting and put in the router number and everythign and see if it works. I know people hate it but restoring it usually works. Its just simple small virus's that hit your ipod through songs and stuff and it eventually makes everything stop working. So get back at me let me know if restoring it worked.

SOURCE: Connecting Ipod touch 8(GB) to Wi-fi

Hi,
I want to tell you that there might be two problems for your concern.

1. Your router is not working properly
2. Your Ipod Touch is not working properly

But it might be possible that both devices working fine just the compatibility issue.

First of all i can suggest you that you can upgrade the firmware for your router.

Then you can reconfigure your wireless setting on your router.

Then tried to put static ip on your ipod touch in the network setting option

IP address: 192.168.0.15
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1

Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1
Secondary DNS: 4.2.2.2

Then tried again to connect wirelessly with your ipod touch make sure you dont required to add mac address for you ipod touch and also you can click on the option called "Wireless Access Point"

Then you can see the option " Turn Access Control On" you can uncheck this option.

Try again i believe that will resolve your concern.

Thanks & Regards

Connecting my ipod touch to my wireless router through wi fi

Hi,

Check for the password on the router configuration page to make sure tat you are using the correct one:

1. Open the browser(Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox).
2. Access the router usually http://192.168.0.1 else try http://www.routerlogin.com
3. Login to the router (User Name = admin Password = password unless you have changed it).
4. Click on Wireless Settings'(under Setup) from the left menu.
5. Check if 'WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy)' or 'WPA-PSK (Wi-Fi Protected Access Pre-Shared Key)' is selected under 'Security Options'.
6. If WPA-PSK is selected, copy the code entered in the passphrase.
7. If WEP is selected, copy the code entered in the Key that has a black dot before it.
This is the code required for connecting the wireless computer to the routers' wireless network.
Enter the same password on IPOD to connect to the wireless network.

Rate it,if it helps.
