Rheem RAKA-024JAZ Fan was not working but compressor was kicking in, as suggested in another forum I spunt the fan by hand and it started, I decided to let it run a while to cool the house down and planned on shutting it down but when I went outside the unit was shut down and now the compressor will not kick on even when pushing the coil down is the compressor now toast also?
Check the capacitor, if it is bulged out it is obviously bad, but I have replaced many that were hard to see whether the top was bulged out or not. If you take the access panel off (should be in the same area as the contactor you were manually pushing in) you should be able to see it. I have only had luck buying them at my HVAC supply houses (usually under $10) You need to make sure to get one that has the same MF as the existing one, if you take it with you someone should be able to match it. Be sure to discharge the capacitor of any stored electricity before disconnecting it (I would recommend calling in a professional HVAC tech if you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable at all with this procedure)
SOURCE: carrier central ac high efficiency
usually capacitor, burnt wires or bad compressor.kill the power and check the terminals at the compressor.they have been known to burn off if the connection is loose.
SOURCE: Fan blows but compressor does not run.
turn off asap! the compressor is the heart of your system, so it might need a hard start it gives it more power if that does not work be ready to pay for a new outside part
SOURCE: carrier fan unit
Poke the fan blade with a stick to see if the bearings are seized up. If it turns easily, you have an electrical problem, like a bad capacitor.
SOURCE: Very hot outside. blower comes on but outside fan
Check the voltage source for the fan and compressor
Check the start capacitor for the compressor. If its over heating :bad compressor
SOURCE: the a/c unit cooling fan shuts down shortly after unit kicks on.
If a fan motor quits working during a cycle it usually means that the thermal protector is turning it off. If you had an amp meter on it, you would notice that it is exceeding the listing on the nameplate, Nine times out of ten this is irreversable, the motor needs to be changed. Sometimes if there are oil ports on the motor, you can add a few drops of zoom spout oil and that does the trick. But usually the motor is already damaged. Good luck.
