I just finished mixing dough up and it wo/nt tilt back. I was able to jimmy the bowl off and the red dough hook is out but the right dough hook is stuck and the tilt will not work. The button seems to press in and I can see some latch movement but no tilting is happening.

OK,Where the mixer pivots there is an ajustment screw ( Flat head). Place a dime at the bottom of the bowl and make your adjustment carefully ( quarter turn at a time).Using the low speed only, adjust until the tip of the flat beater barely touches the dime. When your done, you'll be back in business.

If you're still having this problem, here's what I did a few minutes ago that fixed it. Lift the head, then turn the screw that connects the head to the base to the left. You're basically unscrewing it. That screw regulates how high or low the beater is. Unscrew it a little at a time, and lower the head and try to lock after each turn. The head will gradually get in a more locked position. Keep turning the screw till the head finally locks in all the way. Read the "beater to bowl clearance" section in the manual.

Hello there,
It is the same problem when you mixed bagel dough in it. The problem is that the motor needs lubrication. Moving parts require lubrication for maximum performance. There is a plastic gear inside the unit, if it is getting shredded it will begin to get stuck and strain before it will be able to mix a dough smoothly.
The plastic gear is meant to self destruct with time so as to save the motor from getting bad, so it is the plastic gear that need to be replaced in the kitchenaid mixer and if you intend to fix this yourself. Here are what you need to start the job and the steps it take to take it apart.

Hope this was helpful to you.
All the best
