This can happen for a number of reasons, but make sure the condensing coils are clean and not obstructed by any improvements or natural things such as trees or bushes. The hot gases produced by the compressor must be cooled (condensed) by the pulling in of the ambient air to cool these hot gases and dissipate them in order to reduce the head pressure and condense the hot gases to a liquid. The appliance is designed to shut down whenever the head pressure reaches a pre determined level (to protect the equipment).
