I have a KDF-50E2000 that has two problems. 1) makes a vibration noise when the cooling fan runs. 2) The picture seems excessively dark during daylight hours. Especially during scenes of night time...

For the vibration noise, may guess would be the color wheel or one of the Fans.

As for the dark picture, it could be a bad lamp, dirty mirror or lens.

Picture is dark

the problem is that the lopt is loosing power this can be due to a leak. in it there fore you will hear a hissing sound or the lopt is simply past its time. and will need to be replaced ( the lopt is a unit that sends power to the screen or in this case the globes the less the power the duller the picture)

Pictures very dark even with a light meter

Digital cameras operate on a delayed shutter. Your Camera and flash are not synchronized. Try adjusting flash to a slower speed. Or the cameras Fstop value to get them insync.

If you half push the shutter the rangefinder and focus circuits kick in and will adjust to available light and give you your best picture. Do not ever push the shutter in one step. press it slightly to get the best focus and then push the last millimeter to get the picture!

Dark picture!

The Lamp it self, the Ballast, or the Power Supply that powers the Ballast. Even a combination of the Lamp and Power Supply is a common problem. If you have not replaced the Lamp since you have owned the set I would replace that first. The Lamp has about a 3000 to 5000 hour life span.
Hope this helps,

Dark picture

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.

Dark picture

How old is the TV? More than 6-7 yrs? Then it's time to do a trade in. But if you are very attached to it, get a Technician to recondition the Picture Tube. This may give it life for another couple of years. You could also ask a technician to check the DC filter Capacitor for the HT line to the Video Drive circuits. Over time this capacitor dries out and also causes a darkening of the picture. It is normaslly a 100 mfd 160V capacitor.
