Mower blades engages but when I stop to empty grass they will not

DYT 4000 mows fine for 10 minutes and then blades will not re-engage after stopping blades and mower. Let sit for awhile and everything is fine. Cannot find any loose connections. Seat switch is ok for stopping engine but noticed that when I lifted the seat and the engine begin to stall, I could quickly push the seat down and the mower blades would engage each time I did this. However, they would not re-engage using the PTO switch but I can stand up and sit back down on seat and blades will re-engage. Could this be in seat safety switch?

You do know that anytime you get off the seat, the motor will die if you don't lock down the parking brake and the engine will die anytime you get off the seat with the blades engaged even if the brake is locked down.

Yes it is there is one under the seat & under the dash & there is also one connected to the clutch/ brake peddle which is more than likely the one giving you problems is the clutch/brake peddle switch

Craftsman Model Number: 917.377151 motor shuts down when blades engaged

The engaging of the mowdeck is cause an excessive demand of your engine. From that, we can assume your problem is in the deck. Since the power drive is all about belts and it threw the belts, from your information I can only deduce that either an object (stick-wood-rock) has wedge into a position that has stopped rotation of the blades. Also, each blade has a pulley/spindle. These have bearings which must be free to rotate.
A bearing failure or seizing can also cause the problem you report.

Follow safety rules in your manual to insure the engine cannot start. Attempt to rotate each blade to check for free rotation. If the do not you most likely will need to remove the mower deck and check further. An obstruction or seized spindle should be easy to determine and sit repair is easily possible.

Why does my riding mower die when put in gear or engage the blades

Check out the grass box safety switch. if not fully depressed it will apply brakes to the blades when in gear. Most mowers are designed with a safety switch to stop the blades, or forward motion if the grass box is not fitted correctly.

We have a John deere 314 lawn mower. After you mow a few minutes there is a loud pop and the mower stops running. After it sets just a few minutes it will start right back and mow a few more minutes and...

Julie this sounds silly but try and run it with the exhaust and muffler removed. If it ticks over and then stops when it's engaged for a few minutes it sounds like its suffocating.

Blades wont engage

check the clutch if it engage then check the cable and belt to if it works make sure all the bolts are tight. usually the belts is too loose or if its a clutch drive maybe the clutch doesn't engage or worn out.

Lots of smoke when I engaged stuck blades - now runs roughly

Most likely what you did was burn one or more spots on the belt. When the blades and belt stop turning, like in tall grass, the engine doesn't stop and will burn flat spots on the belt at the engine pulley. Every time the flat spot hits a pulley, it will jump and can set up a bad vibration. Run your hand around the sides of the belt or take it off and you will feel or see the thin spot(s) on it. Replace belt.
