Can I put a 40x microscope lens into an ultrasonic cleaner? My boss said the microscope guy told her the urine from our samples gets on the lens and "warps" it. How can that happen and I think it is just dirty because it got this cloudy within a few days. Can you explain if this is ok and can anything wrap a lens? Thanks

Soak in a product like lime away first. Glass lenses cant warp without heat. Plastic even crystal type can absorb minerals. Ultrasonic can help clean all of them. The lime away will remove almost all trace minerals, lye or powdered drain cleaner will remove organics. Gool luck let me know how these ideas woek for you.

SOURCE: Can stained bacteria be seen with a 40x magnification microscope?

Hello--I understand that you need at least 600x to view bacteria and some say 1500+ so 40x doesn't seem to be in the right mag. area at all--not sure this helps much. You could purchase a 100x obj. and 10/15x eyepieces but will probably be into oil immersion for the obj.Possibly a 20x eyepiece + a 60x obj will give you a degree of definition.I use a SEBEN Bino with this combi and it gives a small view but not good.kind regards martin r

While the outer lens surfaces will be clean, the inner components may be affected or even damaged.
Microscope objectives are complex constructions.
It is too risky.
