My clothes are coming out after a cycle covered in lots of dust/hair (http://snag.gy/l00Kb.jpg). Is there a filter on this machine that might need cleaning. If so, how to access?
My hotpoint is same you have to pull machine out then tip on side carefully then remove black sump pipe right by pump at Back machine clipped on so remove clip holing to drum and pump. Also the pressure sensor might be attached just unclip then clean filter out and put back clipping back on tight. Hotpoint have self cleaning pump on these models but has catch by pump that can get blocked only new models of hotpoint made this easier hope this helped :)
SOURCE: where is the filter to clean it
hi
most of these filters are located at the back of the appliance.
Make sure power is disconnected first!!!
Unscrew the plate at the bottom rear of the appliance.
You will see, on the right hand side, a black corrugated hose that connects from the bottom of the drum to the drain pump.
On the drum end there will be a big metal clamp that you can unscrew. Once lose the hose should easily come off the drum. Inside this hose you will find a filter that may be full of fluff.
Reassembe the hose and make sure you tighten the clamp properly otherwise it will come off and flood everywhere on your next wash.

Thank you for your post, friend!
From what you are describing it sounds like the felt may have come off your Frigidaire dryer. I would recommend seeking assistance from a professional to come out and properly repair your appliance. This would help avoid any unnecessary part purchases. -Matt
Hi
If your washer has
developed a bad habit of snagging and/or tearing your clothes; before scrapping
your washer, try these few tips:
1) Check, by hand, the
smoothness of your washer. Look for any broken fins or roughness on the basket
surface. Replace, if necessary.
2) Reduce the size of your
loads. Heavy, cramped loads can cause a lot of friction which leads to tears.
3) Reduce the amount of
bleach used. Bleach can eat holes in clothing.
4) Verify water level is
not too low, especially during rinse cycle, where snags are more apt to occur.
5) Consider placing
delicates in a garment wash bag
6) Front load washers have
no center agitator, so they are less likely to tear clothes.
Please get back to us if
you have further query or else please accept the solution.

Mine has a kick plate at the front that comes off. There is a filter there. Uncrew that and pick out anything that has been caught in there. Put a cloth down to catch any water that may come out.
Thanks but mine does not have that. Heres a photo of what is behind the front platehttp://i.snag.gy/AOyO9.jpg
OK I have accessed the black sump pipe now. It is held in place but plastic clips (Herbie clips?). I can't see how to loosen them without breaking them. Do I need a special tool?
I used a small screw driver and put in hole of clip as clip works by zigzags so to unclip I used this to unclip by not going against zigzags with them like slipping the clip off sorry if this confusing. Clip latches with two parts I used screw driver to split to parts of clip apart hope this helps
I actually didn't need to touch the herbie clips - I just loosened the worm clip on the drum connection, that let be bend the sump pipe out and get the filter out to clean it. Full of crud, buttons and collar stays! One tip for tightening the worm clip: you will need to make it tighter than you think otherwise it will leak! I suggest taking a close up photo BEFORE you loosen it to see threaded/tightened it is, then use that as a guide when you reconnect it. If not tight enough, it will leak during a cycle.. as I found out!
