It should just pull right off. Try downloading a manual from the makers website.

SOURCE: GE GSS 25QF Side by side Refrigerator

Check to see if there is any frost buildup in the back wall of the freezer. If so, it is not defrosting as it should.

  • possible causes:
  1. bad defrost timer
  2. bad defrost heater (in freezer)
  3. bad thermo switch in freezer
If you don’t know what these are then unplug the machine and let the ice melt in the freezer overnight with the door open. Then try it the next day, if is cooling fine then you need to have a service person replace one of the above items.

SOURCE: red glow (from defrost heater?) at bottom of rear panel in freezer

This is from the GE Appliance "Knowledge Database" Web site:

Refrigerator - Explanation Of Red Glow

In a no frost refrigerator, the defrost timer activates defrost heaters in the evaporator section (rear of freezer) which heat up and melt the frost off the evaporator coils. This process lasts for approximately 25-45 minutes and usually happens up to twice a day.

During this time, there will be no running sounds, no fan noise, and you may hear water dripping or sizzling as it hits the heaters. On side by side models, you may even be able to see an orange glow at the bottom of the freezer.

This is normal.

SOURCE: refrigerator keeps running

I have the same problem. I called a service rep for G.E. and he said that there are 3 thermodisc
sensors behind the white evaporator cover. He gave me a price to repair that was completly out
of range for the problem. I paid him for his service call and sent him on his way. I then decided to
to order the parts from a factory online parts center at less then half the cost of my estimate not
to mention that when I was ordering the part the Factory emailed me a complete parts breakdown showing the Thermodisc and that my unit only has 1 thermodisc not three installed from the factory.
I ordered 2 one for a backup just in case. I deiced the buildup and installed the disc after 24 hours the refrigerator was working normal for about 4-months. Once again the refrigerator iced up and stopped cooling so I called the factory tech support and they told that it is normal to have some ice on the cover of the evaporator and the thermodisc is at that point supposed to open the cooling circuit to let the unit go into defrost mode and then close again. The Tech said that I had a bad
Thermodisc again so I put the spare one that I ordered in and it also worked for about 3 months
now I have the same problem ????????

SOURCE: GE Side by Side Refrigerator no longer cooling.

If not cooling or signs of not defrosting we will need to check the compressor start components, fan mortors and motherboard. Let me know and I can guide you through this. Sea Breeze

Ge model refrigerator GSS23QGTAWW pictures or video showing location and removal of defrost timer, heater and thermostat switch in the freezer

Your model doesnā€™t have a defrost timer. It has a control board that controls defrost and many other functions of your fridge. Itā€™s located behind metal plate on outside back of refrigerator usually just above bottom grille. Heater and defrost thermostat are located behind removable panel on inside back freezer wall. Heater will be at bottom of evaporator and thermostat will be clipped on top of evaporator

Ice maker stopped working?

First you should know your machine has the ice bucket in the door, witch means you have a electronic eye that checks to makes sure the ice bin can recive more ice, this device is in the freezer on the right side with the red light. this light can give you a idea of whats rong. first you should open both of your refrigerator doors and remove the bottom kick plate and look in the kick plate grill for the tech sheet. this sheet should ave all the error codes for your ice maker emiter board and should give you some tests to preform for your model.

The water dispenser is displaced on my Whirlpool refrigerator ED5RHAX NO00. I am trying to remove the face plate but am afraid to crack it. Any suggestions?

I eventually managed to remove the faceplate, using a screwdriver in the bottom slots of the faceplate and prying it loose, sliding it up to remove it from the slots at the top of the faceplate.

Vacuum condenser light of sub zero 650 is on - how to clean it

We recommend vacuuming your condenser every 3 - 6 months. Cleaning the condenser is important for the overall operations of the unit including cooling functions. A dirty condenser may lead to warm temperatures in the refrigerator and freezer. It may also cause the unit to run excessively. It may contribute to condensation or frost inside of the compartments. If the condenser is not cleaned properly it may even cause premature failure of mechanical components in the unit. Condenser Cleaning - All Models Before cleaning the unit, shut the electricity off at the control panel. When you clean the condenser, wear gloves to avoid injury from the sharp condenser fins. Use a soft bristle brush and vacuum to remove dust and lint from the condenser. To avoid bending the condenser fins, be sure to vacuum in the direction of the fins, up and down. Clean the condenser every three to six months or sooner if you have pets. 600 Series Framed and Stainless Steel louvered grilles: First remove the grille screws located at the bottom of the grille. Tilt the top of the grille forward and release the springs from behind the grille, then lift off. Overlay Panel Grille: To remove, lift up then pull out at the bottom and down to release from its mounting bracket. Remove the two black screws in the lowest louver of the grille. Tilt the bottom of the grille out and away. It will release from the top of the grille. Model 601RG Stainless Steel Grille: Remove in a similar fashion as the overlay grille panel. 700 Series All Units: At the bottom of the unit, remove the four screws holding the kick plate/grille in place. It will then slide forward, giving you access to the condenser area. 400 Series 424/424FS At the bottom of the unit, remove the screws holding the kick plate. The condenser is located behind. 427/427R: Remove the four screws holding the kick plate/grille in place. It will then slide forward, giving you access to the condenser area. 430: First remove the screws located at the bottom of the grille. NOTE: These screws (Phillips head) are accessed with the door open. Tilt the top of the grille forward and release the springs from behind the grille, then lift off. 200 Series 245, 249, 315W Remove the kick plate at the bottom of the unit, giving you access to the condenser area.
