Squealing noise on may tag 3000 series dryer at start of cycle

There are a few causes for this. One is the main bearing, video below to show repair.
Squeaky Noisy or Screeching Dryer

Second is the drum rollers themselves, I use a heavyweight oil on the shaft and it cures it on mine for a couple years.

Inglis dryer is squealing like a belt loose. it subsides during cycle but a burnt rubber smell is very prominent when finished

Replace the belt - it is old and worn out. The belt is made of rubber and is slipping, causing the smell and squeak. The belt heats up and becomes more flexible after the dryer runs a while; this is why the squealing stops.

Maytag gas dryer squealing

Hi, this is a belt issue. make sure the tension on the belt/motor is sufficient. adjust to specs. if the belt is fine, this will be bad bearings in the roller assembly.

Replace the rollers in this case.

Kenmore 400 dryer squealing noise

A little lubricant on the pulleys near the belts will go along way. Its vereasy to access these parts front the back of the machine with a 1/4 hex head screwdriver.

Dryer not working

Sounds like two problems.

First, the screeching noises are probably from your belt tensioner wearing out and needing replacement. Or the belt is not properly seated on the tensioner and needs readjustment. No biggie there.

BUT...

If you have to keep the start button pressed for the dryer to keep spinning, you may have bad centrifugal switch. That switch is built into your dryer motor. Therefore, the motor will have to be replaced... BIGGIE!

Dryer makes a loud squeaking/squealing noise while drying.

If the dryer model number begins with 417, the drum is supported by a ball bearing in back, and a seal and glides up front. Often, the bearing will become very dry, either from years of use, or from excessive lint blowing up into the bearing. If the bearing isn't cracked or otherwise noticeably bad, you can usually solve the issue simply by lubing the bearing with a high temp grease. While the machine is apart...(a major pain in the butt), make sure to check the condition of the seal and glides on the front panel, and replace the belt if it looks at all cracked or frayed.
If this dryer is not a 417 and/or does not have a rear bearing, it's best to get a maintainance kit (belt, idler pulley and drum rollers) and install all the aforementioned parts, as they are the most likely source of screech. Also, check the motor by spinning the shaft manually with the belt off....if that is squeeking, it's motor
time.
