Either your coil is blocked with paper or wrap, or you have a refrigerant leak in the coil and the little bit of gas that's left is flashing as it enters the coil. Make sure that the cooling coil and condenser is clear and the fans are running. That's all you can do without refrigeration tools. Good luck and hope this helps

Most fridges have a cooling vent above or on the side of the top shelf. This is where most of the cold air comes from, so keeping food away from here may preventfreezing. ... Some side-by-side refrigerators (particularly older models) feature a vent that funnels cold air from the freezer into the fridge.4 Aug 2015

Ice forming

  • One cause of this is the compressor is going bad or Freon is low. The freezer is no longer able to achieve the zero temperature requiring the compressor to run continually. The refrigerator because of the continues running begins to freeze up. Food in the refrigerator begins to freeze and the freezer is not as cold as it should. This results in a very expensive repair of replacement of the unit .
  • The defrost cycle is not working. Depending on the conditions the unit has a sensor that detects when the defrost cycle should initiate. If this fails to occur than ice builds up on the coils and air can no longer pass preventing the normal cooling process. Many models use a mechanical timer that stops. On some units the defrost cycle can be initiated via advancing the mechanical timer. This repair is a reasonable expense.
  • The third possibility is a door was left open and the unit iced up the cooling coils. Suggest in that case shut off the unit , remove the food and allow the unit to manually defrost, Restart and see if unit gets cold and defrost cycle is working.

Fridgerator not cold and freezer not freezing

You will need to clean the condensor coil. It is usually under the refrigerator on newer models and in the rear on older models. All you need to do is use a vacuum to clean it. Also try to leave some room behind the refrigerator, do not keep it too close to the wall. It needs to circulate the warm air it extracts.

Left not transfering cold enough air to right side. doesn't get colder than 50 degrees, why?

Remove back panel of freezer (where you see the frost) and melt the frost with a hair blower. The frost blocked evaporator coils are not allowing air to pass over the cold coils, so no cold air is able to get to the fresh foods section. You will most likely need to replace the defrost heater at the bottom of the evap coils to prevent this from reoccurring in two weeks time.

Freezer and fresh food sides not staying cool.

If you truely have a leak in the system that would need to be properly taken care of if you ever want to return to normal operation. If the defrost timer goes bad usually you will completely freeze up the coils which causes air circulation problems and only the very lowest part of the freezer (and sometimes fridge) sections will freeze. The upper top of the unit won't be very cold. Same thing happens if the evap. fan (above the coils) goes out (no air circ.).
