What would cause heat to blow out of one vent and cold out of the other?

A heater core is a component inside the HVAC box (located under the dash) that is heated by engine coolant. Vent temperature is increased by routing air through the heater core before it comes out of the vents. The temperature requested by the HVAC control module determines how much air passes through the heater core and how much air bypasses it. This event is called air "mixing" or "blending" which refers to the hot air and cold air ratio. Air routing through and/or bypassing the heater core is carried out by the use of a blend door and blend door actuator. Over time these two components can fail mechanically which often results in abnormal noises and improper positioning leading to undesired temperatures. Now, higher-end A/C systems with dual-zone climate control have multiple blend doors and actuators; this is how how the two different temperature "zones" are achieved. A failure with only one of the zone's blend door/actuator would result in desired temperature out of one zone's vents and abnormal temperature out of the other zone's vents. 09 Lincoln MKX, dual climate temp. When turning both sides on high, luke warm air comes out of the drivers vents, and the drivers half of the defrost.

Temperature Blend Door Actuators The dual-zone EATC system uses 2 temperature blend door actuators to control 2 separate temperature blend doors. The temperature blend doors independently vary the LH side and RH side temperature settings, as desired. The temperature blend door actuators each contain a reversible electric motor and a potentiometer. The potentiometer circuit consists of a 5-volt reference signal connected to one end of a variable resistor, and a signal ground connected to the other. A signal return circuit is connected to a contact wiper, which is driven along the variable resistor by the actuator shaft. The signal returned to the EATC module from the contact wiper indicates the position of the temperature blend door. The EATC module drives the actuator motor in whichever direction is necessary to make the actuator contact wiper voltage agree with the expected EATC module contact wiper voltage value.

2001 Cadillace SLS air conditioning

It sounds like you have "zone" climate control. With "zone" climate control you can adjust the driver, passenger and sometimes other "zones" to different temperatures for the comfort of all passengers. Make sure that the Driver side is set to a cool temperature. If it is then you more than likely have a problem with the temperature controller for the driver side.

2008 chrysler aspen heater contols does not switch modes. It is stuck on vent setting, won't switch to defrost, floor, etc.

I've had this problem almost since I bought my Aspen hemi limited at 114k. I tried fuses, key turns, battery resets..ONE THING almost always (95% of the time) works...
start at HIGH in climate control, press both zones at same time to go to LOW. Once you hear it engage the cold side, press both zones at same time but this way go back up to HIGH. The system will then engage heat, and you should be nice and toasty. I swear this works. 221k on my hemi limited. Heat is cranking with the climate control problem, and vice versa to engage ac/cold side. Hope this finally helps everyone I know what a pain freezing in your truck at 5 am is. Namaste!

TOYOTA HIGHLANDER A/C CLIMATE CONTROL NOT FUNCTIONING

Based on the limited information provided, it would appear you have a bad climate control control board. This controls all heater/AC functions including climate control. If you're unable to change temperatures and/or fan speeds, the board is most likely bad and needs replacement.

What does code B0281 MEAN on obd 2

This code is for Air flow control #9 circuit high. This pertains to the dual zone climate control in the car. It uses a series of doors(located behind the dash) to control the amount and temperature of the air coming out of the individual vents. There is a problem electrically with that particular door. A quick call to your local dealership should be able to provide you with more specifics or a least a printout of the diagnostic routine associated with that code. Hope this helped.

Warm air coming from driver side vent & driver side dash vent when a/c is on in my ford explorer

Dear Madam or Sir,

if your Ford is equipped with a two-zone automatic climate control, the problem can be a defective temperature flap servo motor or a faulty signal from the driver´s side indoor temperature sensor.

The system can easily be checkt with thediagnostic computer at the next Ford branch.

Problem with AC, dual climate zones

The temperature blend door on the driver's side might be broken or stuck. Also, if this vehicle does not have the correct amount of refrigerant, it will do what you are describing.
