JUST BOUGHT A NEW ONE OF THESE AND SAME PROBLEM. LINE JUST KEPT COMING OUT. TOOK THE COVER OFF THE SPOOL AND TOOK THE SPOOL OUT, UNDER HERE THERE IS A WHITE LEVER THAT IS USED AS A RACKET TO ALLOW THE CORD TO PAY OUT. AT THE TOP OF THE WHITE LEVER THERE IS A TINY PIECE BROKEN OFF THUS CAUSING THE CORD TO COME OUT. IT IS AWAY BACK TO B+D

Do you mean that the string keeps feeding as you try to operate the trimmer?

If so, you are winding the string on the spool the wrong way. Put the string on the spool in a clockwise direction. This should do it.

Rethreading a garden strimmer

Hi Deborah,
You need to start from the beginning of the trimmer string. Remove the entire spool. Insert the start of the line through and wedge it into the little groove to keep it from coming loose. Now wind the line tightly and neatly in the direction shown on the spool. (it should provide an arrow stating to "wind this way". As you near the end of the line, keep it snug and push the end through the hole where it leads out to the cutting zone. As you re-insert the spool into the housing, make sure it stays tightly wound as you lock it into place. This should help. Usually when your string is too short, you tap the **** of the spool on the ground to advance the line. It should feed a bit at a time, and when you hear it getting cut off, you should stop advancing the line.
Hope this helps.

Instructions can be found at: https://www.2helpu.com/PDMSDocuments/EU/Docs//docpdf/gl550_uk.pdf.

If the line keeps getting too long, it's because swivel 14 in diagram 7 was in the wrong position when you inserted the spool - just move it to the ouside position, re-insert the spool and away you go. Frankie.
