Hi, is it just plugging the charger wire to the USB and to the camera? If so for how long? And, is this all there is yo it? Thank you!

check corrosion on the battery contacts. Use a pancil eraser to clean them if you can get to them.

you now can buy chargers to replace lost ones, i work in a camera shop and sell a brand called Hanmel. they do a range of the most popular brands of camera chargers, just check the back of the hamnel packaging it to see if it it compatable with your battery

Perhaps your charger is bad. If not then the battery itself may be the problem. If it is a Lithium ion battery then it is possible that it has gone bad. Many L-ion batteries have a built in chip that determines if the battery can safely be charged. If it, (the chip) determines that it can't then it locks out the battery. You may have to buy another battery

Try the following:
- Remove and insert the battery (to reset)
- Start your coolpix
- During a few seconds, it shoud start... before saying the battery is low. Quickly connect it to a computer during that time (quite short !)
The problem occurs when the "charge by computer" option is activated (see user manual item #173 / page 161).
If the light flashes again, do not press the on/off button: instead, wait for the battery to get charged (otherwise everything will get stopped - and you will have to play again).
When done, check the "charge by computer" option (and fix it if misconfigured).
