I have a riding mower and i get that problem sometimes and what i do to fix it is i take a metal pole and put against the motor and gear on the starter and push when it moves i turn the key and that normally fixes it.

There is either a fault with the push start switch, the starter relay or starter solenoid. Take it in for service, or you local dealer will probably collect and return it.
These machines have carb and coil issues. Check for fire. Nice when new, but once a little age creeps in, the engines just aren't that sturdy. Sorry, but as a small equipment mechanic, I don't recommend Lawn Boy. Next time, buy another brand.
Remove spark plug and observe condition. Fouled with oil, bad motor. With plug removed pull rope several times to blow out cylinder. Spray WD40 in spark plug hole, pull rope several times see if oil blows out. Spray a lot of starter fluid in spark plug hole, replace plug. Spray starter fluid in air cleaner area of carb, try to start. Replace spark plug, try to start. Ensure oil is full, all mowers have a low oil sensor now. 30w oil. Always use Stabile in gas.
Check the blade bolt is tight, if the starter kicks back it may have sheard the flywheel key, to check this you will have to remove the starter and flywheel.
Have you checked the battery voltage with a multimeter? It should read 12.2 volts or higher. It sounds like the battery is dead, or the charger is not charging.
It starts after it's run because the magneto is slightly charging the battery, plus a cold engine is more difficult to start -- more friciton when cold.
