You obviously need more fluids and fiber in your diet. Actually, fiber can be somewhat constipating itself when not taken with fluid: water, juice, soup, or whatever. Start your day with a good breakfast, including fresh fruit and wheat toast, or a whole grain cereal, such as Grapenuts or hot rolled oats. Oats contain a type of fiber that has a lubricating effect. Breakfast helps get the lower g.i. tract moving, at a time when it's most active, being full from the previous day. The new breakfast biscuits like Belvita are an excellent source of soft fiber, and come in many flavors, including chocolate chip; we use them to replace cookies in our diet. Right before you use the bathroom, it helps dramatically to drink a full glass of water. The body being like a potted plant, water can get things moving within minutes. It may also help to get up and walk around. Keep a list of vegetables and fruits that loosen you up, such as cherries or plums, and be sure to eat them with every meal. Ready-made salad greens labeled "Spring Medley" and the like contain natural lacsatives. Another food that might help is popcorn.

Addendum: Also, if your problem is very big, as you say, do not delay going to the restroom. Go as soon as you feel you need to. Children playing outside who hold it in can develop problems, not wanting to come inside to use the bathroom.

Will bicarbonate soda help with constipation if drink with hot water

Hello, Gaynore -

Apparently bicarbonate of soda (baking soda) in water can help relieve constipation. Read the information here:
https://homeremediesforlife.com/baking-soda-for-constipation/

The information on that web page also indicates that bicarbonate of soda can be mixed with lemon juice in water and drunk for some relief.

Note: Next time you are at the grocery store, you may wish to purchase a bottle of prune juice for future consumption to help relieve constipation. Read information here:

Best wishes.

I had my gallbladder removed some years ago,i take a lot of duphalac, because of constipation. Would this medication get into my naval and cause irritation,

fixya site is not a medical forum
no
go to your doctor and have a fungus infection in the navel checked out
eat more fibre in your diet and less processed foods and use a probiotic pill to assist with the constipation problems
With out a gall bladder you have to severely restrict the fat intake in your diet as the body no longer has the control of the bile to break down fat
also if you are over 40 it is time to see your doctor about a colonoscopy to check for bowel cancer as chronic constipation can be a cause or a result of it forming

Recently , i have been feeling VERY constipated . But , when i say VERY constipated i mean VERY constipated! Like BIG style! I don't have a lot of fibre in my diet so i'm not sure whether i need to go

consider this you have to go on a daily basis because the statistics show that people who don't are more prone to bowel cancers
you talk of needing more fibre in the diet but are not doing anything about it
it is also caused by the lack of water intake
so get to a doctor now to see what the problem is as it may not be a diet problem but a serious restriction of the bowel
get there now or what you fear may become a reality

I,am having a lot of problems lately not feeling well I think I may have a problem with my galblader. trying to find out what symthoms are

One of many gallbladder trouble symptoms is intense pain after eating.
You can Google for more information if you wish.

One sure way to find out if you have a gallbladder problem is to go to MacDonald's and have their greasy cheeseburger, with a large order of their greasy fries. I'm loving it!

Two hours later you will feel the symptoms. Fear not, it will not kill you, but you'll wish it did.

The pain is agonizingly excruciating, something like a mule kicking you in the stomach and then sitting on it. Painkillers don't help much, but luckily the pain only lasts 2 to 4 hours.
No big deal, see? Large rough gallstones just trying to pass through the thin sensitive duct to your stomach.

If you're too much of a chicken to take this test, please see your doctor PDQ, or get to a walk-in clinic while you can still walk upright.

Getting carted out on a stretcher moaning to the ambulance at midnight with flashing lights and little people in white coats running around, can be very embarrassing and it costs money.

Furthermore, by the time a doctor sees you in the Emergency Ward, the pain would have subsided anyway, and then you've got to pay taxi fare to get back home.
