If it's greyed out, there is no data to reset, and it's not that causing the issue. ... wentall wonky, swipe for charms wont work, can select anything ... I tried the hard reset and low and behold my touchscreen started working again.

Either you have turn the Touch function off or the problem might be with the connection its might be loose. You can check in the control panel for Touch function. Or your keyboard might have quick function keys. The bottom of the keyboard has (fn) and another key on the keyboard will have the touchscreen icon.

You can use touch screen only if your monitor is touchscreen enabled by factory default!And one more thing you must have a touch enabled operating system. (eg :Windows 8)

DO NOT install Dell Touchscreen driver as it does not work with MS Touch Pack
Update Windows
Install Dell Fingertapps Touch Zone.
Install Dell Cozi YouPaint, Dell TouchCam, TouchCam Update

simple and fast solution to this is do a system restore back a few days and your touch screen should work again.hope this helps

Sounds like a touchscreen problem, itself.
The touchscreen is NOT part of the LCD screen itself, but when you go to replace, the two units are combined; and sold as one unit.

The different views help me explain the Touchscreen.
The touchscreen uses the Capacitive Sensitive system. Each area on the touchscreen has a separate CS unit for it,

Which is what makes me think with two keys not working, the touchscreen is the problem.

One possible Win8 touch screen clue is the price. If the computer cost over $1000 on an all-in-one, you might have a touchscreen. Another test is to touch the screen and see if you get a response from the cursor. (Clean the screen afterwards to avoid fingerprints blurring your experience.)

(my only touchscreen device is an Android tablet. The laptop touch pad and a Logitech T650 touch pad give those functions for a lot less. Lenovo and Dell also offer Win8 touch pads.)
