What is your laptop model? It is a speakers problem. You can use a wireless headset. I experienced the same problem; somehow my laptop's speakers make a not so good (strange) sound.

sounds like distortion is being caused by trying to amplify a low volume level from the input device. try putting the ipod volume at a medium level and try again to see if the distortion goes away/reduced
First off, most Youtube videos have bad sound but most likely is you need to lower the volume for FLASH via the sound mixer. Both are using flash. Turn down the volume for flash videos. You also have volume control with the video themselves.
The fault is from your laptop speaker. I think it has a hole inside and maybe that's why it distorts. Or maybe the sound/volume is too loud and the speaker does not have the capacity.
I would advice you to get an external speaker for your laptop.
Amplifiers are designed that way to prevent overloading. One reason why it would abnormally shut off is if the speakers winding are shorted out. If you smell burnt enamel from one of the speakers, then maybe a shorted speaker is the abnormality. Extremely high volume shut off is normal though, like when you turn it up, and the sound starts breaking up(distortion).
The distorted and low volume output plus noise is usually caused by using the wrong power supply adapter. The Alesis SR-16 takes a 9V "A/C" supply not "DC". The A/C supply provides a negative voltage swing which wouldn't exist with a DC supply. So check and make sure you have 9V A/C output supply not DC.
This is a case of one or more transistors breaking down when heated. This can be found usually by using freeze spray to cool down one transistor at a time until the problem clears up. You can narrow this down a bit by determining whether this "noise" is effecgted by the volume control or not. Also, does the problem show up faster when the unit plays louder?
Give that new sub a chance to "break in". New speakers require a few hours of use before the voice coil(s) and spider break in and began operating at their best performance. Is the box within the operating specs of the sub? Is this a ported box; if so you will here some turbulance type noise from the port. What type of distortion are you hearing? Alternator noise(dentist drill like sound) would only be noticable through a sub at lower volumes due to the frequency response of a sub. Is the amps lowpass crossover turned on?
Will not turn on get blue screen with eq band only after leaving it on for some time i get some function out of it only at low volume setting if i try to turn it up reception and sound quality breaks up
