SOURCE: Amana ARB1917CSR ? Refrigerator freezing food, (bottom) freezer working OK

I picked up on something you wrote within your problem description. "got the thermostat replaced under warranty" & "that worked for a while ". back in Aug of 2002. It's August of 2008 and your thermostat may have failed again. 6 years later... not so unusual. Anyway, since your fridge has a bottom freezer, there must be a pass thru between the freezer and the fridge compartment in an area you haven't examined yet. The fridge gets cold air delivered from the freezer to keep it cold thru this pass thru and many fridges have an adjustable flap that allows you to limit that cold air flow. Time permitting, can you do a more thorough examination of the fridge area ( side walls near crisper drawers perhaps?) or better than that, remove the drawers and look for that air duct pass thru. Once located, if it does not have an adjustable damper, try a little duct tape to limit the amount of cold air from migrating into the fridge compartment. Other options: Can you contact Amana customer support directly and get their support? That particular model has been discontinued by Amana but they should be able to support it. Not sure I added anything to what you already know. Gave it a shot thou...

Chances are if they are getting cool -

1) the evaporator fan in the freezer is not running
2) Defrost heater has failed
3) Defrost sensor has failed
4) Defrost timer/refrigerator control has failed.

Check for ice build-up on the back wall of the freezer. If there is ice, unplug or turn the unit off for 6-8 hours with the doors open (put any food in a cooler with ice to maintain). Note water may come out of the refrigerator/freezer.
Plug the unit back in or turn it back on, close the doors, and check temperature after a couple of hours of operation. If all OK, you will need to have the above tested, or, if you know how to use a multimeter and can read a schematic/wiring diagram, I can instruct you on how to check the above.

Frost is building up in bottom freezer. Appliance is running nonstop. I believe that the freezer drawer has been shut completely. Foods in refrigerator section are fine; foods in freezer section are...

Frost can build up for multiple reasons. Most common is the start os an iceblock. Other reasons can include condensation from door being left open or opening too much. It can also happen from backsplash from the inlet tube for the ice maker. If the fridge is running non stop. It sounds like the ice block is forming and the temps are not getting to the program temps. If at factory setting the freezer should be at or around 0 degrees and fridge should be between 42 and 48 degrees. Has the fridge shutdown at all to go into defrost? The defrost timer may have went out and is causing an iceblock. If there is an ice block always change bimetal/ defrost thermostat.

Amana abb1922few bottom freezer refrigerator freezes in the ref section freezer ok

Good day,
The air going to the fresh food compartment is controlled by a pneumatic damper which varies the amount of air going to the food compartment. Many times it pops the spring off that tries to keep the flap open. It is located at the top rear. Look here.

If it proves to check out ok. (I'd take it to an appliance parts house to let them see it,) it would be the control that regulates it's opening position.

Check the thermostat, to make sure that it is working properly. The theremostat is a long wire in the top of the freezer up near the fan. If that is bad it will not let your freezer cool correctly
