No sound on some channels (which previously had sound); some channels still have sound

Find if there is reverb. Not sure where you are putting the IPOD into the unit. Turn off the effects for that channel. There is usually a control for each channel that controls the amount of the channel sent to effects in addition to the normal mix gain. It sounds like yours got turned up for the IPOD channel.

I have exactly the same problem with my TCL HD television. Previously worked ok but no amount of rescanning the channels will restore the picture. :(

This actually sounds more like a signal issue on the cable box. When you go from regular digital chs to HD channels sometimes boxes will distort or pause the picture when changing channels (it's not the cable or satellite, it's your TV trying to read the different format of the chs) this is normal. Also, some TVs may need to have a firmware update and you can normally get it from the Manufacturer's website

The sound and video signal on LGs are driven directly from the mainboard which suggests a faulty mainboard..If the channels were tuned in previously to the fault then this solution is futher backed up. If the channels were not tuned in prior to the fault then you wont get any sound until the channels are tuned in, and it would not be possible to see the menu to do so. The prescence of REMCON pulses suggest the PSU is delivering power to the mainboard..Id go with a new mainboard but providing the channels are tuned in ok with no sound.

Change TV viewing channel to 3 or 4. If this works your VCR's output channel got changed during storm. If this is the case, review previous answers to prblems with this VCR.

as you are using the ch3 , have you previously scanned and locked in all the channels for cable,

Select Sound from setup menu and ensure SPDIF Selection is set to PCM (not Auto)

Check in the menu to see if the audio is on SAP. If it is change it to Stereo. Hope this helps
