This is often a problem when using non-Kodak inks as the cheap after-market cartridges use dye instead of pigment inks. Replace the after-market cartridge with the proper Kodak pigment ink cartridge and the problem should go away. If you are using a Kodak cartridge, you may need to run your printer through the cleaning cycle a couple of times. Also, run the printer through the calibration cycle once.

I changed two colour ink cartridges on my Canon iP4200 printer. Now it won't print colour. The pattern check does not print any colour.

You might want to double check to make sure that your printer takes two color cartridges? If I remember correctly, the Pixma takes one black and one color cartridge? If you put a color cartridge in the black ink assembly that would cause it to stop printing.

Double check and make sure that you have one black cartridge in the correct place and one color on the other side.

Don't print the black color

Doing reference on your issue. Double check the ink cartridge to make sure that the cartridge is correctly installed. Also be sure that the black ink cartridge used is compatible with the machine.

The next thing to do is a cartridge cleaning as the belief is that the print head is blocked. If you have done a thurough cleaning, the next thing to do is replace the black ink cartridge to be certain the ink cartridge is not faulty.

I have included print head cleaning instructions in case you have not done this cleaning process.

here is some information from the Brother support site:

If one or more of the ink colors are missing from pages printed by your machine (i.e. received faxes, copies and/or documents printed from the PC etc), nozzles in the print head may be clogged, or the ink cartridge in question may not be installed correctly. Verifying that the ink cartridges are installed correctly and/or cleaning the print head may solve the problem.

Cleaning the print head may solve the problem. When cleaning the print head, you are given the option to clean BLACK ONLY, one of the three colors (CYAN, YELLOW, or MAGENTA), or all four colors at once. For this issue we recommend cleaning only the affected color. If more than one color is missing then choose ALL.

When the machine completes cleaning the print head, press Color Start. A Print Quality Check Sheet will print.

Getting a black line on the back of the pages.

I am also getting a black line on the back of everything I print. I have gone through all the steps to clean the ink heads. I even had, (by chance) more black ink in the house and tried replacing the cartridges.

The black line came out bolder. This problem is a expensive because it uses up ink, and doubles the printing.

How do i change setting only to print black

Hello lsmith473, Here is how to set your printing preferences to black ink only:
  • From your Desktop: Click Start-->Control Panel
  • Double click Printers and Faxes
  • Right click your printer and select printing preferences
  • You should be able to set black ink only on that window or in one of the tabs.
Please reply with any issues or rate this solution if you found it helpful. Thanks! Edward

Although new black cartridge insalled (colour OK) page will not print in black - seems a blockage?

Open the printer and remove the ink. Clean around the ink carriage and the under the ink with alcohol and a cotton swab. Pay special attention to areas with copper contacts. Keep in mind too that some printers will not print, even with full ink, if the exact type of ink it expected you to have installed is not right. Double check that the ink is correct against the manual or written instructions inside the printer using the number not the shape. Not every cartridge that fits the printer necessarily works.

Can't print and when i did got green color

Check the level of your black ink. Double click on your printer icon. This should bring up Dell solution center. Click maintenance and it show the level of your black and color ink. If it appears you have black ink you might try clicking on your menu file, print click on preferences, check print black and white only. If you don't get a printed page. You're for sure out of black ink.
If you get a black printed copy, Double click on your printer icon, click on the maintenance tool to clean and test nozzles.

Can the 420CN print double sided pages

There is only a manual double sided printing avaiable:
After the first side was printed you have to turn the page into the papertray again.

Canon bubble jet printers can do double side printing but the back side black print will be mingled through C/Y/M ink!
