Multimag 5000 suddenly going muuuuch slower

Have scanned about 500 slides. Suddenly in the middle of a rack, the time to scan one slide increased from 3-4 minutes to about 20 minutes? And I can clearly hear the scan sequence ticking much slower than before. I did not change any settings. What can be the problem and how to fix it? Any ideas? I already tried to turn off the scanner and the computer and restart everything. Did not change anything... Thanks

SOURCE: I am trying to install my Braun multimag slide

I had a used SlideScan 4000 that I tinkered with trying to get working for 2 years with several computers, drivers from the web & firmware updates. It would scan a few slides then freeze. It seemed to depend on the memory, as I could scan 2-3 slides on low resolution before freezing, but stopped half way through the first slide on high resolution. I finally found that I had to go into Device Manager (I'm on Windows 7 - Ultimate) and delete all other imaging devices (well I think I was able to leave the computer's web cam on) to enable the device driver to load properly. I installed Cyberview X - which installs the driver but I am using Vuescan for my slides. I recall my dad having a similar problem getting another scanner to work on his computer. Apparently it is a common problem to have conflicts with scanner drivers if you have more than one on your computer.

Can't scan slides on Epson 4490

Please make sure that the option cable on the back of the scanner is seated properly.
You may need to trash and re-install the drivers.
To get the most recent driver compatible with your operating system, please log on to epson.com and go to the drivers and support page.

Unsharp scans

Sometimes this is caused by scanning a Kodachrome or thick emulsion slide on the "Positive" setting. Set it to Kodachrome and try again.

Sometimes this is caused by dust on the reflector mirror. I know it was a big problem here.
Ifyour scanner is under warranty, you can ship it in to have itcleaned to their service center, or if not, you can give it a shot yourself. Iwould only do this if you are a mechanically inclined person and arewilling to do it RIGHT. Here's a link to instructions:
http://www.pearsonimaging.com/articles/howto/ls5000cleaning.html
Irecommend reading through it at least once before beginning, and makesure you've got the materials you need on hand as well as a cleanworkspace. It worked on our machines. I give them a once over every so often to keep them sharp.

Trying to convert slides to digital images

to scan a slide is difficult, and it is alomst impossible to get a clear image. since slide needs intense light to show a clean image. the scaners' light bar just not enough light to reflect back to get a clean image.
you may get the same result if you take them to a professional for conversion.
I don't have any suggestion at this time.

any one???

Problems with batch scans and with filing using a non-Nikon code system

Did you try saving your choice of settings as user settings ? That way, they will serve as defaults for all subsequent scans.

Scanning monochrome negatives on Coolscan 5000ED

Your killing yourself how big are you going to print this!!! Are you using Vuescan or silverfast for scanning or Nikons util? Stay away from Nikons utility! 2x sample is plenty and turn off ICE for monochrome (it makes a mess of things) but 16 bit yes until you print then go down to 8 after you resize for final print.

Random black lines on scanned slides

Normally dark lines are a speck of dirt sticking on to the glass and when scanned continuously, it appears as a line. Clean the glass thoroughly. Ensure the slides are dust free. If the lines are appearing in different locations, it means the dust gets removed while scanning. Line in the same place could be because of glass is scratched. The above is common with roller scanners.

For fat bed scanners, there will be no scratch on the glass. It must be from the slides/documents

Hi there I had the same problem with auto focus sf-210.
If tried many things to correct the problem and what I found was that if you you put a small book halfway on the opposite site of the power button then I have maybe 1 or to slides out of focus and the other 35 slides are perfect ! (I used it with HAMA slides other slides I didn't test )

Hope this wil work also for you,
