Find the 2 screws. There will be a (h) high and (L) low. These are for hig rpms and low rpms. First tighten the screws. Then unscrew them about 1-1/4 turns. Then start the saw and let it warm up. Start with the high rpms first pull the trigger all the way then adjust the screw in 1/8 turns either way until it is running good at high rpms. Then work on the L rpms. Get the saw to idle then pull the trigger, there should not be any hesitation when going from L to H rpms. Just adjust the low same as the High. They have to work together so if the high is good and the low is not just right turn the h a small amount. If you have any more questions let me know

First pull out spark plug look at it if its oil on it or black its to rich if its white its to lean it should be an orangeish color also there is a screen in the muffler its a spark arrester if its been run rich it will clog up and will bog out and you wont be able to adjust carb pull out screen and cleen with wire brush its carbon build up also check air filter keep it clean clogged or dirty air filter will make a saw not idle with poor power on a side note regular gas sucks in saws run at least mid grade gas ethanol is a killer in small engines run synthetic 2 cycle mix stihl or husky makes good stuff I use stihl myself with mid grade gas but if this still doesn't fix problem you may have cranck case leake or broken rings loss of compression ive had stihl 192 with broken ring when turned on side run like a champ turned upright whouldnt idle and shut off and if youre saw been droped and it don't take much of a drop even a light throw the base plates of the engine wher it mounts together will break when first start saw runs fine minute later wont idle or idles high and shuts off that crack gets hot and expands

It is important to first determine if the problem is trash in the carburetor.
I just found the problem with my Husqvarna 51 to be a leaking carburetor gasket. The plastic carburetor mounting flange stripped out allowing the carburetor to remain loose on that side. I was able to adjust the low idle and the fast idle well enough at first but as soon as the saw encounter vibration and heat the the carburetor would need adjusting all over again.
I was finally unable to adjust the carburetor at all when it was hot.
I took the carburetor off so I could drill out the bolt holes in the flange and add bolts with nuts on the other side. I fit the hole assembly back in the saw and it worked like new.

I'm adjusting the carb on my Husqvarna 45 and found the side holes for the l and h adjustment and I want to slow down the idle speed. I also turned the lower single screw and it affected the saws acceleration and it wants to stall. What is the lower screw for on the carb>

  • darkjester79 Sep 08, 2011

L and H screws are the jets on the carb there will be another screw lower down that is for the idle speed T screw is what i think its labeled as.

SOURCE: my Chainsaw Husqvarna 345, won't start. With

I hope 2 different problems Marvin. I think the starter is most important, after you reply with findings we will take on the likely fuel delivery problem. Please do this and post back (below) with what you find.

Starter Handle difficult to pull:
1. Remove the starter cover. Does the starter operate smoothly? If yes, reinstall the cover and continue with 2, if not repair the starter.
2. Is the saw equipped with a decompression valve? Yes continue, no proceed with 3.
· Leave the ignition off, set the valve and pull the starter.
· Pull gently to release the valve. Is there a difference in the effort required?
· If yes continue with 3, if no repair or replace the decompression valve.
3. Was this saw perhaps operated in a lean condition (metal transfer from the piston to cylinder wall)? This may be caused by many things including but not limited to; leaky intake connections at the engine or carburetor; leaky crankcase seals; cracked fuel delivery lines; running on gasoline containing no 2-cycle oil.
· Disconnect the spark plug wire and remove the plug. Remove the muffler (clean it and the spark arrestor before reinstalling), hold a light at the plug hole and inspect the cylinder through the exhaust port. Is it smooth and shiny or does it appear speckled with dull gray spots or smears?
· Pull the starter slowly, inspect the piston as it rises and falls. Is it a dull gray without scratches and gouges?
· Hold the light at the exhaust port and look through the spark plug hole, inspect the cylinder above the exhaust port. Is it shiny and smooth or speckled with gray spots or smears?
Please Note: Any spots or smears on the cylinder or deep scratches and gouges in the piston indicate the saw was operated in a lean condition. Repair of this on a home owner quality saw often exceeds replacement cost. A repair estimate by an independent saw shop should be considered.
4. The last likely possibility is the saw has jumped timing. Inspect the flywheel and crankshaft under the starter cover. Are the woodruff key slots aligned and the key intact? Please take it to a good local saw seller/mechanic for a written diagnosis before authorizing any repair.

If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. Thank you for using FixYa and Good Luck. HTH

Starter fluid removes what little lubrication is provided by the fuel mix. I suggest a teaspoon of mix into open carburetor throat or the plug hole. Do not go to speed with the air filter removed.

If spark is ok then I would say the carburetor is the likely problem or the fuel is not entering the engine. Something like the following instructions might help.

How do I adjust the oiler

As standard the 345 did not have an adjustable pump, there was an option of an adjustable pump, if it has the on, then the adjuster is a three position screw comimg up from under the crankcase below the sprocket, you will see a + and - on the edge of the tank at this point.

Unable to locate adjustment control for chain oiler model 345 husqvarna chainsaw

Not all 345 machines had an adjustable oiler, it is retro fittable if it does not, however if it hs an adjuster, the screw is located on the bottom of the saw between the cranckcase and the fuel tank, just below the sprocket, there will be an oil symbol and a - and + sign there, the pump is three position, for 13/15/18" bars.

My husqvarna chain saw bogs down even without chain on it.

I think your "L" adjustment is off by a little, but because it will not hurt, costs nothing, and might be the cause of this, remove, clean and reinstall the muffler and spark arrestor. If the problem persists try this, it is by far the best carburetor adjustment I have found.
Carburetor Adjustment by Madsens.com
http://www.madsens1.com/saw%20carb%20tune.htm
CW is leaner; to lean will destroy the saw. If over tightened closed (CW) the adjustment screw faces are easily marred; marred adjustments are difficult to impossible to set properly.
Clean the air filter; adjusting with a dirty filter can cause a run lean condition once cleaned and the saw run.

There are 2 wav (sound - idle & full – may not be highlighted) files that I find most helpful, I think you will too. Good Luck. HTH

Where is the bar oil adjusted from on husqvarna 345

Turn the Hus 345 chain saw upside down, you may see a little Icon of a oil droplet and a + - arrow by the chain. THe adjustment screw is not pictured in any of the standard user manuals,. but it is a small black slot headed screw over a rectangale metal tab by the chain. I believe if you turn it counter-clockwise, it will give you more oil,, It did for me. If you have the bar off, you can start the saw and see it come out the hole, that would verify your oil pump is working. Make sure the holes on the bar are clean also. running the saw at a fast idle for 1 min should oil the chain well enouth that it starts spraying off the end of the bar when you gun the engine.
