Clutch doesn't release smoothly on craftsman dys 4500 gear drive

When I am slowly releasing the clutch on my gear drive, it will suddenly grab and leap forward. Is there any way to make it grab smoothly? I changed the belt but it didn't help.

SOURCE: Engine starts, but stalls when clutch is released.

The is a safety switch located underneath the mower, in the dashboard area. This switch will not pass voltage to the ignition system unless the pedal is depressed, or the deck is not all the way up. However, your culprit is most likely the pto (power take off) switch on the dash that engages the blades. It will not allow the mower to start, if pulled, and if faulty will shut off ignition power when you release the pedal. First. You'll need a volunteer to sit on the mower and operate the controls.  Now put the deck down and with the pedal depressed start the engine. Nothing should happen, if it does replace the deck switch Sears part number #176138 mentioned above. Now raise the deck and release the pedal. Again, nothing should happen. Same solution if it does. If nothing happens on both tests the switch is ok. NOW. Behind the dash, find the pto switch, and squeeze the sides, depressing two clips that hold it in the dash. You should now be able to slide it though the dash, wiring attached. Unplug the switch. With pedal depressed, deck up, someone sitting on the seat, start the mower. Now release the pedal (making sure to block the wheels and have the transmission handle is in the neutral position. If the engine continues to run, you found the problem. Replace the PTO switch. Sears part number # 174651. Also, check the plug to the pto, ignition and deck switches for corrosion as this is a common problem, though not likely to cause yours, it could. Good luck, and please let us know the outcome, good or bad. Thanks so much.

SOURCE: STARTS GOOD BUT ENGINE DIES WHEN CLUTCH RELEASED

cut the wires running to the switch...try again...if same, stripp back wires, and twist together...wrap in tape or use some sort of connector...it's electric and should be treated as such...try again...still ?? Start finding those switches and repeat the process til it works...theres usually 3 or 4...

My clutch goes all the way to the floor I have a standard Camaro 96 3.8

clutch pedals are suposed to go all the way to the floor , you sure you dont mean brake pedal (cus thats bad ! ) clutches should travel all the way to floor and release the "grab" of the engine about 2/3 down , this way they are more smoothly allowing shifting thru the gears and not jerking as you shift thru the gears , if clutch pedal does not start to "grab" the engines power by 2/3 off the floor and fully "grab"its power all the way up(slipping) ,and you have a hydraulic clutch (96's do) then the clutch disk may require replacement or there is a oil leak in the clutch/master/slave cylinder , look for small oil leaks from under car in area of foot pedals
clutches should be replaced as an assembly that includes , disk ,pressure plate, throwout bearing , with engine side clutch plate magnafluxed for heat cracks and any hydraulic oil leaks replaced or repaired

I just recently bought a 2004 yamaha wr250f and when I put it in gear it wants to lunge forward I already tried replacing the oil and adjusting the clutch knobs and it helped a little but it still wants to...

When you say it wants to lunge forward do you mean the clutch doesn't disengage the transmission from the engine or that when you release th clutch, it tries to jump (i.e. clutch doesn't release smoothly)? If it's not disengaging the transmission, you may need to adjust the clutch at the engine using the screw and locknut. If it isn't releasing smoothly, the clutch plates could be either contaminated or the release plates weren't installed with even spacing.

Clutch grabs in all forward gears

If the unit has been sitting for a while there may be a buildup of rust on the pulley making it grab a little more than normal, this should were off after a little while.

Craftsman 42 in. deck lawn tractor. Will start and idle fine but when you let out on the clutch the motor bogs down and dies

few reasons will try to narrow down first start it and put in neutral and deck disengaged release clutch if bogs then fuel problem the carb may need adjustment or repair or fuel filter needs replacement----if no bog step on clutch no put in gear release clutch if bogs check drive belt -upper belt on engine pulley and check for binding an idler pulley problem -debris -or rear unit binding -needs service-drive pulley damaged-rear locked--if not bogging in gear step on clutch engage deck release clutch if bogs need to check deck -belts-pulleys -mandrels -bearings and for bent or binding blades good luck

Clutch suddenly not engaging until pedal completely released

Two things, first does it slip at all? If you put it in high gear and hammer it, does the engine rev up? If so, you may have a spring problem causing the clutch to not fully contact the pressure plate and will result in this problem.

Is the fluids in the master cylinder full? Do you have a leak? Bad pressure? I'd check those before going on to more difficult remedies.

Personally, by the way you're describing it, I'd say it's a spring. Especially since it's engaging and disengaging correctly. Maybe an adjuster somewhere came loose? I'm not sure with the Explorer, but I know my friends `00 F-150 had an adjuster snap causing a very similar problem but the clutch just wouldn't grab at all due to his problem.
