SOURCE: burning smell and smoke from motor

Sounds like the transmission is jammed.  This will cause the motor to bog and burn.

SOURCE: carbon brush sparking and cause no power for electric motor

You have either one of 2 problems. Either you have a brush that is hung up and burnt or the armature is bad. If you are comfortable in removing the brushes first unplug the tool and remove the brush caps. Pull brushes out and look at the spring making sure not collapsed and then the end of brush that rides on armature for a burning look. Then I would look into brush tube and try and turn by hand the roller to look at the segments of armature best you can. If this needs anything other than brushes I would take it to a repair shop. Good luck

SOURCE: Hi all,

this can be serious, like a blown head gasket or cracked head. has it been overheated lately? good antifreeze used? even then you can have head problems, are you losing water? oil? check the oil and look for water in the oil, check the water and look for oil in the water, is the water abnormal looking? rusty? all these are symptons of head problems

Why My Hobart A200 20 QT Mixer ML #104858 Motor Is Smoking?

I think... without knowing that motor... that the capacitor is a start capacitor, and that the start switch may be trying to "start" the motor full-time instead of switching it out of circuit after it figures that the motor has spun up. I may be wrong - that design may be a capacitor-run motor (similar to a three-phase motor) - but I'm betting it's a start-only capacitor.

If you know someone with a capacitance meter, you could check the capacitor - for both capacitance (to be sure it matches the label) and leakage. Easy way to write that one off. Alternatively, you could rig it such that after the motor's wound up you could manually disconnect the capacitor and see what happens - either the motor stops or else the smoking issue stops.

Whatever you do, don't let it smoke very long. The varnish on the windings is only so thick.

Phips food processor hr2833 motor availiabilety and cost since it is slow running and smoke coming up and no speed

Brushes may be bad. Heating the windings and glue, causing the smoke. It is a fire hazzard if contunues. Is it worth it to have the motor rebuilt? That is, if the heat damage isn't severe.

Yeah I have a small whirpool washing machine. I stuffed it with too many clothes & it overloaded therefore causing it to smoke... So I unplugged it before it had a chance to really heat up! So the next...

Hi,

Overloading the machine puts extra strain on the motor and the smoke you saw was most likely coming from the motor. As you unplugged it and it ran normally the next time, you may have avoided doing any damage - or at least serious damage - to the motor.

You should be able to continue using the machine with no problem, but don't be too surprised if your motor quits in future. If you are using the machine again and you notice smoke - whether you've overloaded the machine or not - switch it off and have it replaced or at least inspected.

Regards,
BElectric.

My hedge cutter smokes

Hi,
Your hedge cutter is toast....motors run on smoke and when the smoke comes out they no longer run....:-)
Given that a hedge cutter is not all that much money to replace... trying to repair it will not be worth it...
Your best bet is to just get a new one...

Hi,
The motor has burnt up... you will need to replace the blender.
There is an old saying that motors run on smoke...once the smoke comes out of the motor the motor will no longer run... :-)

SMOKE

it may just be a wire rubbing the tub and the insulation is gone. smoke means something is not right. the drive motor will smoke if the windings overheat neccesitating a new motor. - the start or run capacitor for the motor may be bad.

Smoke smell coming from my 80 series Washer

do you actually see smoke or is it you have a burning smell
if you have a smell the motor may be overloading on spin
sometimes this is due to too much soap powder in wash
and when machine spins the water cant get away due to soap suds under and around bowl
acts like a brake on motor
try no soap powder in next wash
a good way to tell is that you still have soap in washing if you lift the lid (with no soap powder added)
