1987 john deere 750 compact tractor 4 wheel drive, wont start

1987 john deere 750 compact 4 wheel drive wont start. Battery is good((12.7 volts across terminals and at positive starter connection), jumpered pto safety switch, no front pto. I'm guessing starter solenoid or neutral safety switch problem. Not sure how to troubleshhoot those. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks,
John

Percussive maintenance my friend. Try banging on the solenoid and starter with a hammer while in the start position. Also, if you have a voltmeter, you can see where voltage is getting to and that will help you as well.

John Deere 855 Compact tractor has no power to solenoid

Power from the battery direct to a big terminal on the solonoid. The other big terminal leaves the solonoid for the starter. Then there are either one (1) or two (2) smaller terminals on the solonoid. If there is one then the body of the solonoid is the ground. With two of course the extra is the ground. Make sure the solonoid has a good ground.
Remove the smaller terminal from the solonoid ( usually yellow) and connect the positive end of a multimeter or a DC volts tester to it. ground the other end of the tester and turn the ignition key to start. If you get 12 volts to the wire end then the solonoid is bad and should be replaced. If no voltage is registered then the ignition switch is bad or an inline safety switch such as: nuetral, clutch/brake, PTO, seat ( Operator Presence Switch). Or you have a bad wire, bad ground, bad connection somewhere in the starting system.
