connect to your router via ethernet cable and open your web browser. In the address bar type 192.168.1.1 which should bring up the router settings page. for user and password type in admin for both. Then navigate to the password settings and change it and save the changes.
Please let me know what password you have forgotten,do you mean the one which is meant for log in to the router. open your browser and type 192.168.1.1 enter it and then check for the password.
I got your issue, Inorder to change the security on your router follow these steps,
1. Open your browser (eg: Internet Explorer), clear the address bar and type 192.168.1.1 and hit enter, You will be logged into your asus router setup page
2. Click on security , on that page
3. changed the security password to your wish and then save the changes which you have made
Open a browser. Type in the router IP 192.168.1.1. Login to the router using your user id and password. If you have never set up a user id or password, then use the factory default ones to access. Once into the router settings, change the admin password to avoid anyone later accessing the router and changing your settings. Once you save the admin password change, you will be kicked out and must login again with the new password. Once in, go to wireless settings. Here you will able to set a wireless password (security key) for your wireless LAN. Once you save and exit, you will need to go to all your wireless devices and modify them with the security key in order for them to access the network. Once the key is in the router, your network is secure from outsiders getting in without knowing the key.
It is possible that, since the firmware update, the standard username an password have changed. Try some other standard username/password combinations (see link).
When you're able to login, I would advise you to change username and password. If you leave both at the standard setting, anyone can access your router (and even change username and password). Asus WL 500g Login Instructions
