Door hot Seal inside doors are hot. Also, on freezer side the seal between the doors on outside of door is hot. Side of refrigerator about 3" inches wide and down some is hot, too. I had the cat hair and insulation cleaned out yesterday. I unplugged the unit last night as I am afraid to go to sleep with it this hot back in the other room. I put a hot dog bun in freezer and it froze. The jelly etc in refer that has been in there since I started unplugging it wasn't getting that cool last night after refrigerator was plugged in for more than 2 hours.

Totally normal. The condenser sends hot gas through the frame to stop the freezer door freezing to the frame. Check to see if you have a fan behind the condenser grill and make sure its running and clean

SOURCE: refrigerator side of my side by side to warm

Check the back wall of the freezer section for signs of frost buildup. Your problem could be caused by a frozen evaporator coil in the freezer section. After making your check come back and give the model number of your Maytag .

SOURCE: Whole room stunk . Refer had Ice on the back panel on the Freezer

the fact that ice was built up on back of freeezer tells me that the refrigerant system is probably ok. most likely from your description you have a defrost system problem. whne ice builds up very heavily it starts to act like insulation (think igloo) so it will allow frozen foods to thaw and fresh foods to spoil. here is how to check. in refrig compartment I need you to remove the control panel/light lens in rear, these are held in place by the control knobs and then you pull out on the cover to release. once this is removed I need you to look for the defrost timer there will be a hole to the right of the temp controls it has a grey or black looking knob in it that you can turn with a flat tip scre driver. turn this knob until the unit clicks off. now you will have to wait a few minutes but listen in the freezer compartment for a sound that sounds like water falling into a hot frying pan, you may also notice a glowing red light at teh bottom of the cover in the back of the freezer.
if the heaters don't come on then the timer is ok. teh next step is remove the rear freezer cover and defrost the ice out of the coils. you can use a hair dryer, or a wet dry vac set to the blow position. once the ice is gone inspect the heaters for burnt or broken condition. (ge uses glass rod heaters and heater breakage is very common) I suspect the heaters are the problem anyway.
be aware that you are going to get lots of water the drain pan will not contain all of the defrost form this bad a freeze up. good luck peyton

SOURCE: Maytag wide by side not cooling

no cold, no compression.

Expansion of compressed freon or ammonia (these days) genartes the cold. You need a compressor running, a proper working expansion valve (not frozen in position) and ventilation over heat exchanger to get lost of generated heat from compression.

Thermostat may be broken. Check this with other temperature gauge around.

SOURCE: right door pops ajar open when left side is shut

you need to replace the seal on that side of the door due to it being worn. The easiest way to replace the seal is to lift the seal up from the inside and you can see the little bolts (1/4 inch head) on the inside. These bolts run through a metal strip that in turn holds the seal down. Once you loosen (do not remove) these bolts you can pull slightly and the seal will come out from the metal flashing strip holding it down. Look at the seal and you will notice a small hump where it sat on the inside of the hump on the metal flashing when you see it you'll understand what I mean. Once the older seal is removed the new seal is ready for replacement. Hint: If you let the new seal sit out in the sun for an hour or so it will become soft and pliable and much easier to work with.
Reinstallation is just the opposite of removal.
To make sure you get the correct seal take the model and serial numbers to a appliance parts house and they should have one for replacement.

Good Luck on your repairs hope this helped

Why does the rubber sealer on refridgerator door and freezer door get hot

Inside the frame is a warm bit of pipework, or sometimes a mullion heater, that stops the seal freezing to the frame.

Door seal between fridge & freezer is hot is this normal ?

No, there is a heater in the seal of the doors to keep the doors from icing up, if it is hot to the touch then the heaters are going bad and must be replaced. You can replace it yourself by removing the door seals, and then removing the heating element that runs the whole door. When you do this make sure that the unit is unplugged.

Changed freezer seal, bottom half of door won't close tight

tough job there , you must get a hair dryer and carefully heat gasket until it seals properly. some gaskets take hours to get to seal right.

Frost is forming in freezer of side by side

There may be a switch on inside of refrigerator to regulate the sweat on outside of fridge. Also, door seal gets stretched to prevent good air seal.Open the door and insert a dollar bill. Shut the door, the door seal should be tight offer enough resistence that dollar bill does not freely pull out of door.If it doesn't,replace door seal.Hope this helps. Gregg

Freezer side is hot outside

There is no problem at all. The outside of the freezer is hot because it is rejecting heat from the inside of freezer compartment to the outside surroundings, this is a normal refrigeration cycle. As for the seals being hot, this may be to prevent the door from freezing shut. i know that commercial and industrial freezers have heated seals for this reason.

Side by side

Suction at door is caused by the rapid reduction in air volume after you have had a freezer door open and then close it. The refrigerator door side does not have as pronounced air reduction volume due to less temperature difference.

Test you door gasket seal by closing the door on paper (dollar bill) works fine. If you have resistance when sliding or pulling on the paper you have a good seal. No resistance means your door is not sealing properly.
