You connected the sound via optical spdif .......if the reciever has HDMI use that if not....select the correct device by going through the receivers selector .....ie: AV, DVD, CD, etc etc...you will find the picture when doing this. should work, also ensure the Tv source has been correctly set as the "SOURCE" on the tv remote.

My RCA RTD325W system only plays DVDs in blue, yellow and white. Why? All of the connections seem to be hooked up correctly.

Please check the connections according to the used video analog output with the figures below:

How do I play DVD on the BlueRay player?

According to the Vizio website, your VBR231 CAN play DVDs the same way a lot of Blu-Ray players can. The site blurb suggests the VBR231 is backwards compatible - which means your player should be able to play DVDs as well as Blu-Ray. Generally, most Blu-ray players can play DVDs if they are backwards compatible with them.

I do know Blu-Ray discs will NOT work in most standalone DVD decks.

MODEL NUMBER: VBR231

*Model Features:
* Full HD 1080p Video Playback
* Integrated Dual Band Wi-Fi - 802.11n
* 7.1 Digital Audio Output
* Backwards Compatible (see below)

*Compatibility:
* Plays Blu-ray and DVDs, Audio CDs, MP3s and Jpegs
* Multi-Channel 7.1 Audio Output via HDMI
* Playback and Enjoy Media via back USB Input (JPEGs and MP3s)

*Outputs:
* HDMI 1.3
* Component Video (YCrCB)
* Composite Video
* Stereo Audio
* Coaxial Audio
* Optical Digital Audio

I hope that helps somewhat.

I can not play dvds, cds ok

Assuming that you mean that you cannot play dvd movies, you need software to play dvds.

You can download a free dvd player but you have to be careful about free software, sometimes they contain hacker tools

All of a sudden there is no video shown on monitor via the viedo out connection of the player when playing DVDs or video tape. I switched cables but still nothing but I do get sound. The video out of the...

Often, because both coax, and/or optical, and/or s-video, and/or any other but ONE video connection is
used simultaneously with any other, the video out circuitry for one or more outputs, and sometimes
ALL video outs are FRIED.

If you can use the coax, then do so, but by itself. A good antidote for this brand of poison is a vdeo switcher.

Won't play dvd

we have two options in this case:
  1. the receiver is your main brain:
you hook up the dvd in the receiver and the tv works as a monitor (the receiver has to have video output to monitor)

2. anyone works at its own:
in this configuration the DVD (video) is hook up into the tv (any video tv input works fine) and audio goes to the receiver in any audio input.

Sony Internal DVD no audio output when playing DVDs

Since the audio is actually part of the video stream and your Video software decodes that, I would say you need to re-install whatever program you're using. On a side note, if it's a recorded DVD, you may have to use the program's setup to select the correct Audio.

Hope that helps...

Hp hd dvd player for desktop wont play hd dvds

I had this problem. Turned out that I was using a DVI cable to connect my monitor to the video card, but my monitor was not HDCP compliant. Most HD-DVD's require the monitor to be HDCP compliant for digital output (i.e. over DVI or HDMI connections). Alternately, you can connect to your monitor via its analog (VGA) input instead, but you won't get HD output. I was able to do this using a VGA cable along with the VGA-DVI adapter for the video card output.

Cyberlink has a tool you can run to see if your system is capable of HD-DVD output. http://www.cyberlink.com/multi/support/bdhd_support/diagnosis.jsp
When I ran it, it gave me a red flag telling me my monitor was not HDCP compliant
