The problem started with the frige not dispensing water or ice... when trying to get ice or water the lights would dim but nothing would come out... Then, about a week later it stopped cooling and with this it started clicking like crazy. The clicking noise is coming from the back behind icemaker behind the light. If I open the frige/freezer doors, the lights are on and if I adjust the temp controls the frige/freezer will cool again for a while but it eventually stops. The frige is only 2 years old byt is out of warranty except for the sealed system (compressor, condenser, evaporator). My dad says the compressor is working because the frige is cooling. I will call GE for service if this problem sounds like it's under warranty otherwise i will call Sears. Please advise... Thanks!

thank you for your input! i didn't purchase at sears, but i know they have good service. the only reason i considered GE was just in case something is still covered under warranty.thank you for your input! i didn't purchase at sears, but i know they have good service. the only reason i considered GE was just in case something is still covered under warranty.

Sounds like a short in a wire and may be also service to ice maker and hands on technical attention. With the combined symptoms I would honestly be shooting in the dark to give advice without having the fridge in front of me. I think sears has shown quality sales and service over many years, and if I was having the same problem I would want the tech. there doing the job.

Try taking ice pan with auger out hold door open and press light switch for the door in while someone presses dispense ice. I want to see if the motor is turning behind the auger ice tray. The door switch has an interlock and when door is closed the dispenser controls should be functional. When open this disables water and ice dispenser. waiting on your response, Sea Breeze
these unit have a problem with the water line freezing inside the freezer door. ge makes a tape style heater that goes inside the dispenser area to give just enough heat to keep it from freezing the water line. you can try to change the freezer settings, warmer, clean the coils at the back of the unit and leave the freezer door open for 20-30 minute to allow the door to warm up and that will be a temporary fix to allow water to flow until you can get the heater kit.
On back of refrigerator are 2 water control valves. One is for the ice maker and the other is for water dispenser. While pressing the dispenser control does the solenoid on back buzz or produce a magnetic field? Unplug the wires from the solenoid and test the voltage coming to the two wires when you press the dispenser? Tell what you find, Sea Breeze http://servicepartstec.blogspot.com/
the way you test that is by goingbehind the frige and taking the bottom panel and find the water connection as the line connects to the frigethere is one line coming to it from the wall and 2 goin out in to the frige 1 goes to the ice maker and the other to the water at the door. disconnect one first and try getting water from the door, one of those lines is going to pas water when you do that, if no one passes water with this test replace that water valve.
Remove the ice dispenser bucket. You will see a square hole at the back wall with a horizontal rod in it. You should be able to move it up and down with you fingers. If not, it may just be frozen. Warm it with a hair blower and try again. If still no luck, the WR62X58 dispenser solenoid may be burnt out / melted and need to be replaced. It is attached to the metal just above and behind that square hole. The removable tray at the bottom of the dispenser recess is a part number WR17X12133 for a PSS26PSTA SS. Contact any GE servicing dealer or general appliance servicer near you to get one. You can get parts direct from GE also, but the won't be any cheaper, and you may pay more shipping and handling.
the water valve is located behind the frige, remove the lower back panel and follow the water line from the house to the frige as that line meets the frige that's the valve that may be bad,but before you change it, you can test it, remove one of the 2 lines that goes to the side of the frige and push the switch to get some water, water should come from back there, if not re move the other line, it meant that the first line belong to the ice maker, try the other one now, it should give you water. if not replace the valve.
