I have had this problem with my 2007 Sportster. I assume you are talking about the little grey clip that clamps the top of the tray. If you look at it closely you will see a little ridge at the base of the smooth tongue like end. if you set the ridge on the outside of the frame and rock the clip back, it should snap right into the hole.
2 grey 2 green and 2 purles are speaker outputs. one of each color should have a black line. thats usually the speaker negative. blue is remote power out to connect to remote power to amp. red is 12 volt power(+). black is power ground (-) yellow is switched power from fuse block.
you need to lift the lid. 2 clips located to the right and left push in with a putty knife and pull up on the lid. take the tub ring off. next take the grey ring off of the top of the basket there are three clips holding it to the basket push in and pull up. next tack the cap off the wash plate next you will see 5/16 inch bolts remove them. take them completly out before you remove the wash plate or they may fall into the holes and you will not be a happy camper. because the only way to get the basket off is with a spanner wrench which is a specialty tool.
Power off the mains.The
filter is located behind the silver plate at the back of the machine at
the
bottom.Four screws hold it on.Drain
out all the water. The filter is inside
the big black rubber hose attached between the pump and the main drum.
Remove
the plastic clip holding it to the pump unit and then the metal cir clip
holding it to the main drum. Inside is a white molded cone and a big
white ball
which floats. You will find a lot of junk here, clean out thoroughly. To
refit
put white cone back inside just as you found it, at the bottom, fit ball
back
into the cone. Attach to the bottom to the drum and re-fasten the cir
clip.
Finally reconnect the gator to the pump unit and tighten the plastic
clip.Check out the pump too before reconnecting. And rate me nice pl for the

Here's the part I think people are wanting to know-- it's what I was looking for and unable to find. The 'Trick' to removing that panel! :)
Here's what you need to know:
There are 3 clips holding the panel in place along the long edge nearest the window (top)-- one about an inch in on each end and one in the center. There are 3 more 'hinges' on the panel's long edge nearest the bumper (bottom) when the door is closed. There are no clips on the short sides.
To open the panel, simply use a utility knife to slide behind the panel on either short side near the 'top' and pry slightly. It may be good to have a flathead screwdriver to slip behind the panel and slowly pry along the top edge (nearest the window still!). Once you have those three clips loose, the panel will fold down like an oven door and the bottom 3 'hinges' will lift right out.
Took about 5 minutes to complete the lamp changes once I got in there! Oh, and I hope you have small hands or thin pliers! Not much room in there!
Yeah the grey pin was stuck in. I noticed a small screw at the back of the hub which when removed releases a spring loaded black plug. Be careful when you undo the screw, otherwise you might lose the spring and the plug as they can fly out suddenly. Once you have got the black plug and spring removed you can stick a screwdriver in and pop out the grey pin on the opposite side of the hub. I then re-assembled the spring and black pin and job done the wheel didn't fall off again.
