My tractor stalls like it is starved for gas although the gas tank is full. I,ve changed the fuel filter and the gas cap. I've cleaned out the gas tank, gas lines, and the carburetor bowl. The problem seems more acute when the gas tank is full or near full. At this time to alleviate the problem, I blow through the gas cap and the fuel filter fills with gas and it runs good again. But as soon as the fuel filter has no more gas, of course, it stalls until I blow on the gas cap. As the tank gets down to about 1/3 full, the engine runs OK. What else could cause this condition?

I had a similar problem with a sears tractor. close to the carbarator is a rectangle box with a rubber hose going to the engine block - remove the hose and spray carb cleaner in the hose wait a few mins and try again - its a vacuum for the carb

You may have gotten dirt from the bottom of the tank up into the fuel line. Try changing the fuel filter. If that is plugged it will be starved for gas.

Stalls after 20 mins. of running fine. (Starving for gas)

From the rear of machine look at the top left of fuel tank for the fuel line.Where line comes out of tank see if it is pinched where it goes down between frame and tank, grab line and see if it moves freely. If that is OK loosen fuel cap after 10 minutes of run time to see if your vent hole in cap is working. These are 2 common problems for the L series mowers.

Mine was doing the same thing. Just loosen the gas cap. If its on too tight the engine will stall because the air cant get into the fuel cell to replace the abscent fuel.

I am having the same problem. STX38 stalls w/half tank

Hi..my name is Keith..im not always right..but it sounds like your gas cap isnt venting..so next time it stalls..and the fliter is empty..take the gas cap off and see if the filter fills up..if it does..then i would replace the gas cap..also..if your fuel tank is below the carberator..it will have a vacuum operated fuel pump that could be weak or bad..and the fuel is gravity fed to a certain point in the tank..and then the fuel pump isnt working to get the rest of the fuel to the carb..i hope this has helped..if not please write me back

Could be that the gas tank cap is not venting properly and is causing a partial vacuum in the tank. Next time this happens, open the gas cap and see if fuel flow is restored. If so, take the cap off and see if it needs cleaned/derusted.

Cub Cadet 2165 engine surges and eventually stalls

Replace the fuel cap!!! The problem is that hte fuel cap vents from it's underside. In so doing it sucks up all of the grass debris and dust that hte mower deck kicks up and the vents get clogged up. As the engine uses the gas, it builds up a vacuum in the tank and the gas can no longer flow from the tank to the engine.
