Electric heater problems.

The travel trailer is plugged in to 120 volt system. With cold snap coming, I set the thermostat at 48 degrees to keep the camper inside warm. After the cold front came in I went to check on the condition of the camper. Found that the heating system would only blow cold air no matter where I set the thermostat. Switched over to propane to keep the camper warm inside. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Gary Landry

Plug in a ceramic 120 volt or oil type space heater to keep trailer warm. Most travel trailers are propane only, they do not have electric heat strips. I would bet that is why it only blows cold air.

Testimonial: "Thanks for the feedback Jim, but the thermostat does have a electric heat setting and a gas heat setting on it. Your comment leads me to think the heat strip may not be working. I don't know much about the wiring of travel trailers and if the heat strip would be on a separate circuit from the blowers and not getting electricity or just broken. Gives me something to look at. Thanks again. Gary"

RV connected 2 external AC-check light on dometic refer comes on when RV batteries r low. I thought refer automatically operates on AC when connected to external AC and don't understand check light.

I go with the converter solution IF you have controls set properly. I have use a 12V trickle charger (relatively inexpensive) to verify and supplement a weak inverter. Since you said your hook to AC you have power for the trickle charger.

Travel trailer electric hook up

Most all travel trailers are set up for 30 amp single pole service which means 110 volts. Always check with your service manual and make sure, if you hook it up wrong you will burn up/smoke some electronics and it can be a costly problem. Also, a 30 amp service for travel trailers are not like a regular receptacle, it takes a special type of recept. Most any good electrical supply store can lead you in the right direction but you MUST know how to wire it up to code in your area! If your not a licensed electrician or at least know what I am talking about, I wouldn't recommend you doing this! It may have to be done in GFI and/or waterproof connections.
