Let me make this clear to you that your Yamaha does not support Microphone but the trick is you can still do it. All you need is a stereo jack to a RCA connector cable.Check this out http://www.mediacollege.com/audio/connection/jack-stereo-rca-2.html It is easily available in the market. The stereo jack will fit into your microphone and the RCA to your Amplifier/Reciever. Plug the RCA into CD/Tape input but not in the Phono n do your thing. Let me know if this works, coz I'm really curious.

Karaoke not working

Hi, got this info from philips customer service. Was desperately trying to get the karaoke function to work for 2 weeks! Plug in your microphone. Press "KARAOKE" button until you see "MIC OFF" text, and immediately press RIGHT button. It will now shows "MIC ON"! "ECHO", "KEY" options will now shows up when pressing "KARAOKE" button repeatedly. However, microphone sound will not be available on digital output, you'll have to use the audio RCA. Happy singing!

Microphone doesn't work with small plug

I'm just taking a stab in the dark here but bare with me on this, I got a lot of info stored in this old head so it takes a while.

If you look at the jack for the microphone, Does it have 2 sleaves and a pin or just 1 sleave and a pin. If it has 2 then you will need an adaptor (Normaly Stereo jack to XLR). If it has 1 sleave then your going to need a preamp.

Microphone

It really depends on where you will be using the microphone and and whether it is just going to be used for fun at home or in a club oor for recording?

Some golden rules for microphone selection.
1) Make sure the microphone is Uni-Directional. This means it will only pick up sound from the direction it points in. You are less likely to get feedback or background intereference.
2) For a vocalist, make sure the mic is a reasonable size. If it is too small and you need to hold it, after a while it becomes fiddly and uncomfortable.
3) When singing always use a foam hood or pop filter with the microphone. This will reduce explosive sounds on the letter "P" etc.
4) Choose a microphone with a wide frequency response but not too much bass which can make vocals sound boomy.
5) Finally, the microphone must have a reasonable dynamic range so that if you suddenly shout it does not distort excessively, but it will also work when you speak or sing softly.
