Air lock in ice maker fill tube - Amana Refrigerators

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

There is a white plastic fill tube that runs from the back of your refrigerator into your freezer. This fill tube in the freezer section is open at the top. This tube goes into the ice maker fill cup on the right hand side of your ice maker. Opening and closing the freezer door - warm air gets in, forms condensate, and freezes. So, your fill tube and/or your fill tube is blocked with ice.

Remove the extra storage shelf in front of the ice maker. Using a hair dryer defrost the ice in the fill cup and fill tube. This is located on the right hand side of you icemaker.

Or, the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber so it's not making ice. If the water is not filling in the ice maker chamber then it's clear that ice is not getting made due to no water in the chamber. For no water filling, the problem is either water supply valve turned off so water is not filling. Turn on the water supply and it will fill. But if the water supply is turned on then the other possibility is ice blockage in the water fill tube. There is a tube from which the water runs and enters the ice maker chamber. If this tube is blocked then water will not enter the chamber. The tube needs to be defrosted, by using hair dryer. This procedure melts the ice collected in the tube and water starts running again. But if water fill tube is completely clear and no ice blockage or any other blockage. Then other possibility is water valve at the back of ice maker unit. This water valve is for letting the water in the ice maker. The water valve open only for 7 seconds and in this time the water fills in the ice maker chamber and then water valve closes and the same procedure runs again in the next water filling cycle.------- In most of the cases the fault is water valve at the back of ice maker section, on some refrigerators the valve is at the lower section. ------------- The above possibilities which I gave you is water not filling in ice-maker chamber so it's not making ice. But now consider that water is filling in ice maker chamber but it's still not making ice. Then the problem is ice maker unit itself. This unit is controlled by main board. But in most cases if water is filling the ice maker but it's not making ice then its faulty ice maker unit. So see if the problem is water not entering the ice maker then the water fill tube is frosted by ice or the water valve at the back of ice maker is faulty. Replace the valve. ------------

Follow the steps mentioned below to solve the problem:
First remove the ice bin and look inside the mold of the ice maker to see if it is full of ice. If the ice sensing arm is down ( on position) and the ice maker is full of ice, there is a failure inside the ice maker and the ice maker should be replaced.
If there is no ice in the ice maker, look at the fill tube on the rear of the ice maker. If the fill tube is frozen up the ice maker can't fill.
You can defrost the fill tube with a hair dryer.
The water valve on the rear of the refrigerator supplies water to the water dispenser and the ice maker. Since the water dispenser is working, the only line that could be blocked runs up the back of the cabinet and attaches to the fill tube for the ice maker. The water valve could be bad and not sending water to the ice maker.
If the fill tube freezes again you should replace the water valve.

Why not do a quick thaw and move the frozen goods over to the firdge for a few minutes and grab a blow dryer. This should give a temporary fix until you can pin point the problem. Be kind to me please with a Thumbs up. I am a long ways away and can only help a little. Raz

SRCTE,  Are you certain that you installed a NEW water valve?  To isolate the problem between the ice maker and the water valve.  Remove the ice maker from the refrigerator.  Inspect the water fill tube for being stopped up with solid ice.  If so, clear the solid ice with a hair dryer blowing hot air into the end of the water fill tube.  Insert a long screw driver into the end of the water fill tube to break loose any remaining solid ice up in the tube.  Inspect with a flash lite to verify the water fill tube is clear and open.  Leave the ice maker out of the refrigerator overnite and operate the refrigerator as normally used.  After 6-8 hours, open the freezer door and inspect the end of the water fill tube; if the water fill tube is clear of solid ice then you have a bad ice maker which must be replaced.  If on the other hand the water fill tube has ice protruding from the water fill tube then the water valve is defected and must be replaced again.  If the water valve is replaced you may desire to install an external in line water filter.
