877-262-1479 for parts. Most defrost timers will be either in the control panel where the thermostat that you adjust temp with is or under the front behind grill cover i think this model it is where the controls are

My ge GSS22WGMCBB is not getting cold eonough - frig reads 60 degrees, freezer reads 38 degrees. What can be wrong? It's 10 years old...should I get it fixed or replace it?

either the compressor isn't running due to a faulty PTC overload relay on the compressor body or a bad compressor itself, you can test the compressor with an ohmmeter between the 3 terminals on the side of the compressor PTC is mounted,if its ok then it can be a defrost problem where its not melting the evaporator ice and blocking the cold air flow remove the inner rear wall of the freezer and test the defrost heater located below the evaporator coil as G.E. defrost heaters are notorious for failing,if its ok,then the defrost terminator on top of this coil can be bad(open)to test this component it needs to be below 15 degrees temperature to show good(closed) if ok then the mainboard located in the rear back of the unit can be defective because it controls all the units functions

We have a 21" frostfree

What you have is a defrost problem. The defrost system has 3 parts: The control, the heater, and the heater thermostat. The heater thermostat is called a termination thermostat or "terminator". The defrost mode lasts for 21 minutes in most machines. The job of the terminator is to kill the power to the defrost heater when the temp gets above 50f to melt the frost on the coils. So what can go wrong?
The heater like anything else will go out like a light bulb does; the terminator it will swell up and fail with age as well. OR the control will malfunction. Older ice boxes use a mechanical timer while the new fangled ones use artificial intel to determine when to defrost. Having frost on the backsides of the freezer is a sure sign of ice buildup in the evaporation department.

I have a Kenmore, side by side, with ice cubes-crushed-and water, color-black. My problem started with the refrigerator side not being very cold, now the freezer side is not freezing. The fan is blowing...

you said a lot . the frost in the freezer back would let know that you have a defrost problem . no frost means no frost . so the heater or the terminator have failed . the unit needs to be defrosted of ice and the heater cked and if bad replaced and always replace the terminator . orthe cause is the a d c adapitive defrost control . ,, mm

How to check defrost timer on Kenmore side by side 596-52673200?

You don't have a defrost timer, you have an adaptive defrost control which determines when to defrost based on how often door is opened etc. If you have a defrost problem check , defrost heater, defrost thermostat

check defrost timer, defrost heater, defrost thermostat. Inmost newer models the timer has been replaced by an electronic control board. If the heater and thermostat are ok it’ll be the control.

You can turn the defrost timer till it clicksand everything shuts down. The heater should now come on. If it does, replacethe timer. If it doesn't, check the heater and defrost thermostat. Turn thetimer again till everything starts back up to end the defrost cycle.

Kenmore side by side refrigerator not cooling

Check inside back wall of the freezer for frost buildup. It would be a sign that the defrost system is not working and the coil inside the back wall is frozen over stopping air circulation to the refrigerator.
Defrost system has a timer that energizes a heater and a defrost termination switch which shuts off the heaters when the coil is warm enough for all ice to be melted. If you have the frost, locate the defrost timer and turn the clutch head screw clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one audible click, the compressor will shut off and the system will be in defrost. After 18-22 minutes the refrigerator should restart automatically. If it does not restart after 25 Minutes turn the timer screw again to the second click. Refrigerator will then start. Replace the timer.

If it restarts after the 18-22 minutes and does not defrost ether the heater or defrost thermostat is bad.
