Sharp KB-6524PS no power

My microwave just died. There is indeed power to the outlet but the microwave does not work at all. Is there a fuse that can be changed and if so is this something I can do myself instead of calling a service repair person?

I've got the same model and the same problem. Inside the microwave the Noise Isolation transformer shows black carbon from arcing on both sides of the PCB, but only no one pin.
It looks like a short to me, but I'm not sure what to replace. It appears this might be a common problem.

The local appliance shop replaced the noise isolation PCB (the one that had black carbon marks) and it is working fine now.

Fixed a dead one. Main 20A fuse blown. Last use pulled open the drawer while microwave was running. Luckily in my case, all 3 door latch switches tested fine per service manual check (link below). Also tested across big yellow cap to confirm no short (wait 10s of min for cap to discharge, then discharge its +- solder joints with a screwdriver, need to pull board out to get to cap solder points on the backside) Replaced the fuse and all is running.

The door latch switches are a common failure and popular repair item. The reason is the poor design where safety cut off switch becomes a frequently used method to open the drawer. Here is a popular repair kit with fuse and door latch switches

https://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Door-Switch/FFS-BA018-KIT/4454521

These door latch switches are rated at 16A and circuit diagram shows main power runs through them. When you pull the door open in mid operation, its like disconnecting a high current circuit mechanically and will gradually arc weld these mechanical switches together. Hence damaged switches are frequent cause of the blown fuse. Design is reasonable for infrequently safety usage. Unfortunately, in pulled drawer microwave ovens, it becomes common use model. To avoid problem in the future, always shut off the microwave via front panel before pulling open the drawer.

All 3 drawer latch switch test are outline on page 17 of service manual

There is a fuse. It is 20amp. It is not readily accessible; you must remove the U shaped case to access it by removing about 15 screws, a simple task with a screw gun.

SOURCE: microwave stopped working

Chances are the thermal cutout (thermal fuse) on the magnetron opened up. It may or may not also indicate a bad magnetron. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: Sharp Microwave problem.

A microwave can be dead for many reasons.

If it goes dead for a while during or after cooking then comes back on, the magnetron is probably overheating and causing the magnetron thermostat to open. Then when it cools, it closes the circuit and allows power through again.

If it's intermittent or random, it may be a bad connection, usually on the control board or fuse holder.

If it went dead almost immediately after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a shorted high-voltage capacitor.

If it went dead a few seconds after pressing the Start pad, that's usually a failing high-voltage transformer.

If the fuse is good, it may be an open thermostat or thermal cutout on or near the magnetron or on top of the cavity / body of the oven.

If you or a friend decide to look into it, we have critical safety information and disassembly information at our site, linked here on Fixya: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk

SOURCE: Sharp Carousel Microwave has no power

I too believe that a "protection fuse" was possibly blown. It would need to be found and get replaced. Hopefully it is just a fuse and nothing else because the way it sounds to me, the microwave may be damaged.

Good Luck!

We have a Sharp R-1874-T convection microwave oven in our 2016 RV. It has been working fine up till yesterday, now it has no power, the breaker was tripped so we reset it with no results, unplugged...

Take the body cover off and locate the regular glass fuse near the control panel wiring and make sure the fuse is good. A blown circuit breaker is the first clue that the fuse could have also blown.

I have rescued tons of microwaves for the lack of a 50 cent fuse.

No power everything was fine then nothing when i got home is there any fuses to check in the microwave

There is a fuse under the cover, as well as a couple of safety thermostats that can cause a dead oven. It may also be that the power transformer for the control circuit board has failed. I've seen several Sharp ovens where the transformer died because of power surges. This would cause no display and no functions even though the oven has power. Also, did you make sure the outlet your oven is plugged into has power? If it's a GFI outlet it may need to be reset, or a circuit breaker in your electric service panel may have tripped.

Hope this helps, and thanks for using Fixya!

Built-in Sharp Carousel II Microwave Convection Oven died.

There are a couple of safety thermostats in the oven to shut down power if something overheats. One is on the magnetron tube (the microwave source), the other is on the cooking cavity. These sometimes go bad. There's also a power line fuse that may have failed, or become loose in its mounting clips. These can be tested with an ohmmeter; they should all measure very close to zero ohms if they're good.

Another possibility is that the control circuit board in the oven may have failed. I have worked on several Sharp ovens where the power transformer for the board has gone bad for no good reason. If the board goes bad the oven may appear to be dead as well.

Microwave servicing is best left to professionals. If you're thinking of keeping this one, take it to a service shop (or call for home service) and get an estimate. Then decide whether to repair or replace.

Hope this has helped a little. Thanks for using Fixya!

Sharp microwave

If it died as soon as you hit the Start pad, it probably has a shorted high-voltage capacitor. If it died a few seconds after you hit Start, it may be a shorted high-voltage transformer. Can you describe in more detail what happened? Have you checked the outlet for power? Have you checked the fuse inside? I'm happy to help you.
