Dishwasher door drops suddenly on opening

It appears the dampening on the door as it lowers does not work which may be I suspect a broken or damaged door spring. The door then takes a considerable effort to pull back up with resistance up to a certain point when it clunks

Most likely one side or the other has a bolt or fastener that gave away. You will have to take the door off to see what is going on in there by the hinge point.

Door doesn't open slowly, it drops down suddenly when opened. What is the problem please?

Pull the dishwasher out. You may see the mechanism and possibly broken spring or other part. (possible it's just come apart. You may need to remove side panels to see this mechanism for the door (counter balance) .

My lg dishwashers door will drop open suddenly

If it is sudden opening during cycle then it is due to pressure build up inside the dishwasher is forcing the door to open.

a) Most likely your door latch is not holding proper enough. Quite common on LG.

b) May be your vent in the dishwasher is blocked so the pressure inside cannot get out. If vent blocked you have plate drying problems too.

c) Is the dishwasher leveled properly. Is it leaning to the front. This will be that extra help for the door to open when pressure build up inside the dishwasher.

Door falls open

The cables that are connected to the springs are broke, atleast one anyway. You'll need your model number off the machine to get them from a parts dealer. once you have them, pull the machine out a little ways and they install on the left and right side lower area.

The door on my frigediare dish washer is all of as sudden very loose the spring is still in place can the spring just get weak?

The spring should take the weight of the door to prevent it from dropping hard when opened. There are two springs so one of them might have broken. One on each side.

Door won't close and door does not lower without dropping out of control.

One or both of the door springs have broken causeing the door to drop. You haven't mention the brand or model so it's hard to help. The door not closeing could be because the door dropped open & is distorted or the door might be hitting a basket if the basket has been put in back to front.

Door drops when opened

your door's hinge link is broken

Pull your dishwasher from under counter (you may need to disconnect hoses and power connnections, so turn off power at the circuit breaker). Look for the broken rope-like item and replace it. Use the other side as an example on how to re-install the link. Attach link to spring, hook spring back into frame/chassis, threaded link through pulleys, attach other end of link onto door then reinstall dishwasher under counter. My replacement link package came as a pair, so replace both at the same time. The other side may still be attached and functioning, but will most likely show signs of wear.

Door opens beyond position parellel to floor

Hi dougisommer

I'm Harvey the Master Plumber.

Your question is: The door springs seem fine but when we open the door and wheel out the lower dish rack, the door drops further and the rack rolls down to the floor. Reading other postings, it seems like a good name for this is a broken "door catcher." How can I fix this?

You may need a sevice tech for this. The 'door catchers' on the sides of the unit can only be accessed after removing. Not a job for the inexperienced.

Poor washing

before you suspect the pump and motor assy, do you hang the silverware basket on the front side of the lower rack or if not did one of the holders for the rack fall off and you replaced it? I have found that id the basket is hung on the rack that tall utensils will hold the door from opening fully. when that happens water from the spray arm will not hit the soap dish and when you open the door you will see soap in it. also there is a plastic peice on the top rack if not installed the correct way it wil hold the dispensor door closed causing the soap to stay. I see this problem all the time. when in the wash cycle do you hear the water spraying around inside? If you do I would not suspect the pump and motor. And with whirlpool the pump and motor is a full assembly and it is disconected from the under side of the washer and removed from the top. also run it empty on a short wash cycle and listen for the dispensor door to pop open. make sure thats working properly to. check all that out and let me know if it helped. good luck
