I have a Craftsman GT5000 lawn tractor w/kohler 25hp v-twin engine, model# 917.276040. While mowing, the engine shut off as though i had turned the key off. Now it won't start or even turn over. There is no power to the lights either. What would you suggest I do...?
Thanks a heap. There's a new battery on it and the terminals are clean but i haven't checked the fuse yet. Any other sugestions if the fuse isn't the case...?Thanks a heap. lights don't work. Fuse blows when ignition is turned on start. I suspected a short in the brake pedal saftey switch. I pulled the switch on the brake pedal and jumped the white and replaced the fuse. Turn the ignition and the fuse blew. I then jumped the black wires and tried again, the fuse blew again.lights don't work. Fuse blows when ignition is turned on start. I suspected a short in the brake pedal saftey switch. I dont have all your anwers. In my experience, Kohler frequently has wires to start, run and stop the engine. They also frequently have a low oil and/or high heat control (engine shut down). Also expect a wire from the charging system. On your tractor, you probably have similar plus 'operator presence' wires. These wires require to you to be sitting in the seat for the machine to operate - a seat switch for example. On my tractor, I can depress the 'brake' (which isnt exactly a brake in fact) and the engine will run when I dismount. However, if the mower is engaged, no matter what, if I get off the tractor, the engine shuts down.
You will have to determine what every wire is for and connect it properly. You may lose some engine 'functionality' or tractor safety features. It is never easy to put a Ford starter on a Chevy. Good luck with your project.
no model # on my DLT3000. Replaced rear fender a few years ago where the model # used to be. I can't get the right parts w/o model #. It was by my dad sometime between '04 and '07. It's red w/42" cut, 20hp koler pro motor.
