If trying with different batteries does not help...and with different remote (try universal for $5-$10 from Walmart or Target) then it is more likely that it is the main board than the IR sensor.
The main board of LT40164 has a known issue which is not best known for losing IR, but may as well result in that on top of other things.

It is only fair to say that so far we have NOT seen a board that lacks IR connectivity...but knowing the nature of the common failure...I would not rule it out as a possibility.

Check the remote control for its infrared emission. Check it with fresh batteries. If it is found OK, the infrared sensor inside the TV should be replaced. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. Pull up older posts. Check the site in 'Mosaic' view. It will make search easy. http://electronicshelponline.blogspot.com/

We have a digitrex tv an bought a universal remote for it as we lost original remote. when we put in codes nothing is working. could u please help?

Hi. If you do not have the original remote to learn the commands, there is not much that can be done by yourself. In this case, I suggest calling Logitech's tech support, because they have the ability to copy in commands from their database which may be able to control your device. I hope this helps.

Initial setup screen pops up at random times. The

The ability to control volume is often lost do to dirt or wear internal to the remote control. If that's the case then I would try a new remote. I universal one will give you the capacity to control volume, on/off and channel change. Try one of those (you need to program it for your individual model) and if that controls the volume you should replace your remote.

Concerning the spontaneous activation of your on screen display is also possibly coming from the remote. Put the remote in cardboard box or anything non translucent and see if that stops the problem. If it does stop it's the remote. If not your set will have to be seen by a professional electronics technician that hopefully is familiar with TV circuitry.
