first of all, make sure that your tablet has an On the go USB port or data port if not, it can only be used to charge. If you connect our tablet to a computer usb port, and your computer recognises it, then you have a data port.
If you plug in a usb memory stick, and your computer can not read it, it does not have a USB to go port.
Also, some Cable adapters are On the Go wired, and may not work properly.
It may also be that the USB port is not providing enough power from the tablet to the keyboard. In that case, buy a split power usb cable, and plug the red (power only) into a usb charger or powered usb hub.
Laptops are much more limited on the supply side for powering USB devices. This is limited by the operating system in the computer. There are some things that you can try such as a shorter cord if the cord is detachable. The cord length affects the voltage and that in turn affects the current. The OS then senses it a drops the connection. This is partly for safety and partly for battery conservation. For some time, that device was not recommended by Apple to be used for that matter. There was a bulletin issued on it but it appears that Apple did not do anything to change the situation.
Check the battery is charged - it may be duff and nee replaced if it is not charging or your power adaptor may not be charging it - check it with a multimeter - the power socket on laptops andf tablets are very susceptible to damage - if that fails then plug it into a pc using the usb port - it will charge very slowly as usb only has a very low charge current but be patient and if it charges up after 12 hours using the usb method you will know one way or another whether its the battery or the power socket or charger.

LOL, you're up the creek. Never buy a computer that does not have a CD Drive on it because that is what you need now. May the AC Adapter Power Cord is bad. Some of them have a indicator light on them when you plug them in the wall. Does yours have a light on it and does it light up? When you plug the power cord in the tablet do you see any lights?
