Engine Seized after running trimmer for 5 min w/ no mix

Long story short, I ran my Ryobi trimmer for 5 min with no oil mix ... The engine seized. Is there any simple methods to unseize the motor???

  • dnoble933 May 22, 2009

That's what I figured ... Worst part is ... it hasn't run it two years I cleaned it, replaced the spark plug, purged the old fuel ( put in straight non mix ), and got it too run ... I was only going to let it warm up and then it seized. What do you think of the Ryobi 4-cycles ??? At least it doesn't require a mix.

Thanks ... I was worried about the reviews on homedepot.comhttp://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor... .... Lots of people are saying it stalls

No there is not. You will need to tear it down and try to get the Piston to turn and oil very well. You might be able to get it to turn it depends on whether the rings are stuck and have welded themselves or not. Sorry for the bad news

I love the Ryobi 4 cycles just for the fact that they dont need mixture so you are not having to mix two different fuels. Plus they run great and are powerful. I own only Ryobi stuff except for my Stihl chain saw.

Yes I saw those reviews, it is due to people not letting it warm up completely before trying to run it wide open so then it falls and then they write bad reviews. With all ryobis you need to let them warm up to a good operating temperature before letting loose on it. Usually about 45 seconds to 1 minute of nice idle works great

Backpack gas blower

Monching, You will have to hope there is not too much damage done already from running straight Gas. Empty all straight gas from blowers tank and refill with proper minimum 50:1 gas oil mix. Start blower and run on 1/2 throttle for a few minutes to be sure its going to be OK. If seized, you will have to try and unseize and if lucky it may run if not too much damage internally. You should run a heavier oil to gas mix 32 or 40:1 in an engine that's been seized. Check the attached links, instruction and guides, Good luck

I have a Ryobi RPT3000 trimmer. Firstly how do I top up engine oil? And then how do I restring it?

The engine on that trimmer will be a 2 stroke 30cc engine not a 4 stroke.
"Two Stroke Oil" is added to the fuel for a 2 stroke fuel mix in accordance with the proportions specified by Ryobi for that engine. The required petrol/oil mix may be printed on the top of the fuel cap. No other oil is used in a 2 stroke engine.

There are a number of videos on Youtube people have uploaded which will show you how to replace the pull cord on a trimmer.

Ryobi s430 starter cord won't pull, engine seized? Brand new, yes oil is in it!

This is a 2cycle engine. You need to mix oil with the fuel at the proper ratio.
The straight oil you put in it is to lubricate the chain, not the engine.

I have a petrol hedge trimmer TRY26PHTA. The engine will start fine but the blades will not move

If the engine starts 'fine" then it has not seized.

Many, if not most, hedge trimmers are , for safety, equipped with a "CENTRIFUGAL CLUTCH" between the engine and the blade to prevent blade operation unless the engine is at full RPM.

IF your machine is so equipped, it's possible that the clutch is worn and slipping so badly that the blade can't move.

Seized engine

This is a rebuild job, freeing the engine up and trying to run again is very short term if the engine even starts up at all.

I ran my Mazda B2200 out of water (long story) It not running now. No water in oil or viceversa. won't turn over?

Uou may be lucky to get away with having the head machined flat and anew head gasket but I suspect that as the engine seized there will be substantial damage to the pistons and bores. The trucks value is relative to you requirements because if you replace the engine you will get extended life from the vehicle but if you really do not need the truck then the decision becomes harder.

Ran fine now it seems like the engine is seized , only two years old the gas and oil mixture was fine it is a ryobi 60511b

take out plug and try to turn tines by hand and check the tines for free movement if free try to pull start it if still seized spray cylinder with penetrating oil and let sit if still wont turn over possible internal breakage-crank/piston rod
