the wm3987hw has an internal fuse located on the "power connection noise filter", It's a transformer or something which cleans up the wall-supplied voltage a bit before it touches the expensive electronics.
You might just be able to replace just the fuse, otherwise the whole unit is part#6201EC1006T, about $50.
take the top off the unit (two philips screws on the top back) you will find the power noise filter on the top inside right wall of the unit. it's not terribly involved to do this fix yourself. 20minute job tops.
It could be the vent hose in the rear is constricted. Check to make sure all hoses going in the rear are in good shape. Nothing constricted, nothing pinched, etc. If it's not that, check to make sure they aren't clogged.
I follow this advice without checking any other components. It was a bit of a costly and timely mistake. Not to say this is not a good solution but before swamping your "control board" (about $99) please check your Filter Assembly aka Noise filter
(i got mine from Appliance Parts Pros it was $27.78 much cheaper and it seams like it may be a defect just because they have redesigned the part now.) I am attaching some pic that i took so hope they help u tell if the part that is in your machine is bad or not and to help replace it if needed. Hope this helps anyone out there having an issue with there LG WM3987H or WM3987HW Washer/Dryer combo that will not start up. I was not getting any light no sounds or any type of response form my W/D combo when I hit the on off button or any other button on the combo. A very helpful link I found was http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABbLk_IXLLI it help me to be able to tack a part my combo.
