Maytag Neptune dryer won't start/

I started a small load that included a pair of my daughter's tennis shoes. The shoes knocked the door open, so I took them out. Now the dryer won't start. The lights come on, but it doesn't start.

I do not have that specific dryer but try these simple steps.
Maybe they will help you.
1. Shut the electric breaker off to the dryer for about 30 seconds and and back on.
2. Open the dryer door and inspect the switch that tells the dryer the door is closed. work it by hand just to make sure it is not stuck.
3. Spin the timer controls to another setting and see if the other setting will work.

That's all I've got for now...

My dryer (maytag atlantis) has started making a loud clunking noise with each revolution. its still drying fine but sounds terrible. any thoughts?

A loose belt will allow the drum to slip when clothes hit the paddles in the drum. It sometimes sounds like a pair of tennis shoes are in the dryer when it slips and is usually rythymic.

These machines also use drum rollers that can make a racket when they go bad.

Describe your MDE5500AY maytag neptune coverProblem How do I open the cover?

ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO DO ANY WORK ON IT.

If you have a front loading machine.
Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Be real careful not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Next remove the screws from the lint filter, then remove the top of the dryer.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:

Dryer won't start. was drying a load and had a pair of tennis shoes in with the clothes. It stopped and now won't start back up. All lights, beeps etc. seem to work fine just won't start.

As silly as this seems, did you make sure the door is completely closed. This is a common problem when drying tennis shoes. One time when I was living in an apt. complex, I went to check on my laundry, and my shoes were lying on the floor (with a couple of other fabrics). I then stood by and watched the remainder of the cycle, and next thing you know - the door opens up and throws out my shoes. Never would've believed it unless I seen it with my own eyes. I would turn everything off, and then go through your regular routine. If this doesn't work, feel free to contact me - and we can go to Plan B...:) Good Luck to you, Jim

Maytag neptune dryer making a thumping noise while drum turns, as if there were a tennis shoe in it, but there isn't? Ideas?

Dryer drum stopped rotating, dryer blower continues to work.

The belt probably broke, and coincidentally happened while drying the shoes. The belt is easy to replace. Open the back and you'll probably see the belt laying on the bottom

Clunking noise, like a tennis shoe, top right rear of dryer

HI sounds to me like your drum support is worn, it would make a thumping sound. You have 2 you should replace them both.

I have a Neptune model MDE9700AYW dryer that wont start

Check to see if the little tab in the door jam, which causes the dryer to turn off, is broken or bent. If its bent you may just need to bend it back.
